Getting ready to livetweet the Cal Fire 6 am press conference, all updates will be in this thread. You can watch the briefing live on the Cal Fire CZU Facebook page or https://www.pscp.tv/CALFIRECZU/1jMJgXoQpWmxL

Sorry, this is a better Periscope link: https://www.pscp.tv/CALFIRECZU

Keep reloading, the broadcast will start eventually. I also have KSBW's live feed open, they appear to be carrying the briefing live as well but in the past they have cut coverage before the Q&A
I know today's briefing has a new location (outside now - much better for Covid-19 and can probably accommodate more people) and I would imagine this is why the start time is a little late.
Got it! Hello Jonathan Cox

now 71k acres, 8% contained (that's good! containment!)

129 structures confirmed destroyed, they will get us more information about those structures soon.
Fire chief - Great success yesterday in North zone, fire control lines established and lack of smoke meant we could use 6 water helos for air support bombardments
Secondary firebreak on the south side goes from hw1 to hw9

Boulder Creek - fire is kept well above the community despite heavy heavy smoke. Not as much line as we like but any progress is good

Ben Lomond - yes we have lots of resources there, they are on the ridge top
Currently the fire remains at the top of Alba Rd and has not progressed into the community, worked all night long to protect Ben Lomond

Felton - there was a spot fire miles away from the main fire this is controlled, no further incidents
Continued progress in Bonny Doon although there is still fire everywhere throughout, we have not have any structures lost overnight and ff are working hard to estbalish control lines
People in the evacuation zones are getting in the way and making it hard for us to work and they refuse to leave. Yes, there are also looters including criminals TARGETING FIREFIGHTERS which is pretty sickening.

IF YOU ARE THERE, LEAVE WHEN YOU ARE ASKED TO LEAVE
We are planning for the bad weather that starts today and we have lots of contingency plans in place to mitigate future fires, we know it will be challenging but we are ready
Incident commander Clark

94 personnel working on public safety, helped with outside folks, 3 welfare checks and 3 suspicious people calls. No arrests.

As you heard, being in the evacuation zone is against the law. We are sympathetic but you're breaking the law.
But also if you are in the evac zone it also makes it hard for us to spot the looters and criminals! We need to be able to catch people who are BREAKING INTO CAL FIRE TRUCKS and stealing money from firefighters as well as homeowners.
STAY OUT

GIVE FF ROOM TO SAVE YOUR COMMUNITIES

GIVE SAFETY OFFICERS ROOM TO CATCH LOOTERS AND THIEVES

Beware of scams, people are getting fake calls from “PG&E” and other “utilities”

Y'all officials will never ask you to send gift cards. They're not on iTunes.
So yes, some people suck and are trying to hurt people but they have 94 officers out there patrolling 24/7 to keep your house safe.

@SMCSheriff up

No changes, they are hoping for the best despite weather.

Disappointed that so many people are going to the beaches
Do not come to the coast. Beaches are closed. DO NOT BE THAT GUY

Billy C is up, from Cal Fire incident command

Key communities and infrastructure have been protected, containment is increased, but we are still on high alert because of the red flag warning
They are getting ready to stop any new fires that happen outside the main fire zone.

The general public still in the evacuation zone is compromising the safety of the firefighters and are a real problem.
Here's Chief Larkin

The next couple of days is going to be PIVOTAL, making the best out of a bad situation

PLEASE HELP FIREFIGHTERS AND GET OUT of the evacuation zone

CIVILIANS ARE NOT TRAINED FOR THIS

Civilians are getting in the way of firefighters who are working 24/7
We have control lines and point protection and perimeter control wherever we can get it

Civilians are endangering themselves and the first responders too

Fire has been burning for 5 days and this is impacting the roadways
“I plead with you guys please leave the area and let us do our job. Thank you.”
Q: how are you herding the fire around Boulder Creek?
A: Our folks know when to engage and stay safe even if fire is moving fast and getting close. We have special tactics to protect ourselves while securing structures, and we will disengage if need be
A: we are working to make sure the fire stays out of town and instead moves to an area where were are more able to suppress it
Q: how are new resources coming in being prioritized? Are we a priority?
A: priorities are statewide, we are high on the list and so we are getting a good allocation of outside resources and they are being integrated into our work
Q: National guard?
A: Their training is almost done, they've been training all week to be deployed and they will be deployed in the next few days. Can't promise which resources we will get but we have plenty of work for them when they get here
Q: Wind?
A: Yeah our winds have gotten better in the last few days which has given us the opportunity to increase containment and make progress. But with the new wind pattern emerging today we can't forecast which direction the wind will move in. We are prepared for adverse conds
