why's combatting racism, ableism, homophobia & every other kind of bigotry perpetuated by the morally decaying culture & system not taught in most schools? morals & basic human decency shouldn't be sacrificed for convenience. lots of normalized things need some real unpacking tbh
we all have internalized behaviors that we need to work on unlearning. most go unnoticed bc of ignorance and the privileges that we hold. some topics are considered as common knowledge but most need serious discussions cos its the society’s responsibility to cater to everyone!!
if u happen to meet a mentally ill/disabled/neurodivergent stranger, would u simply not accomodate or befriend them just because u have zero knowledge on how to deal w them? no. it is our responsibility ableds to show empathy, be sensitive & not exclude them from the community.
how do we do that? can we, students learn all these by ourselves? YES. but are we all privileged enough to have access to the internet? sadly, no. these topics shouldnt just be exclusive 2 those who r willing & requiring themselves to be informed, EVERYONE should be taught abt it
is it just enough to acknowledge that black people exist? is it just enough to accept your gay friend for who they are? is it enough to just accomodate disabled people? these are the first things that we need to do BUT it doesn't stop right there so no, it won't be enough.
there come the duties & responsibilities that require deep learning. from the proper ways of making jokes & communicating w them to understanding their history & experiences. there's sm information that we need to digest & school is the proper place to learn abt all of that.
plus, collective group discussions create a healthy learning environment. and not just in schools but soon, everywhere. which could actually break the stigma and discrimination against these people because it would be seen as a normal thing to learn about in institutions.
actually k-12 couldve been IT. its whole purpose was to prepare us but it felt like we just repeated our whole senior years in college
the curriculum had us tethered to systemic ignorance & wasted everything when we could’ve learnt abt these essential yet tabooed topics.

now seeing how the country works i may sound reaching for all of this. we could be living in a post-discriminatory utopia rn if it wasn’t for bigots who continue to refuse to recognize the privilege they have. fuck the system. fuck the oppressors. fuck all of them.
