A thread of the most common scams used against SWers that can catch out people who are newer to the community

There is no victim blaming here. When we first come to this community, we may find a few "too good to be true" things actually do come true (1/3)
It's not possible to completely avoid being scammed, but there are so many methods you can apply to your daily SW to protect yourself against as many of them as possible

Always be aware that there are basically no protections for you as a SW, caution is your only defense (2/3)
If you do find yourself victim of a scam, don't be ashamed. Reach out, I'm all ears as are many others. It can be devastating and has led many to quit all together. In some cases, that is actually the scammer's aim.
