Week 2 of my coach ed sessions with Basketball South Australia High Performance staff was on the topic of "Devising your offensive system". When cookinghttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🧑‍🍳" title="Cook" aria-label="Emoji: Cook"> up your team& #39;s O & #39;menu& #39;, some of the ingredients to consider are Alignments, Entries, Triggers & Automatics. Summary threadhttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👇" title="Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten" aria-label="Emoji: Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten">
ALIGNMENTS: We touched on the various alignments last week (5out, 4out, 3out), but this week we expanded the conversation to the concept of changing your alignment DURING a possession so you a harder to guard. See these two clips. Play starts in 1 alignment and moves to another.
ENTRIES: We introduced the concept of Pass, Dribble or Screening entries into the main Action of the set. In Pass entries, coaches were encouraged to explore more options than standard G-F pass entry. Like this Pass entry to the trail big for a Mid PNR set by @BrisbaneBullets.
ENTRIES: The entry doesn& #39;t have to be a pass. In fact, the more variety you have in your entries, the more difficult it is for the D to https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🛑" title="Stop sign" aria-label="Emoji: Stop sign"> you from getting in to offence. DRIBBLE entries (PNR, DHO) are a great way of flowing into O from the backcourt and & #39;arrive playing& #39;.
ENTRIES: Against high level pressure D, its often very difficult to enter O so a screen is needed. Screening can also be a great way in PNR sets to create the seperation for the PNR creator. One of my fav screening entries is the & #39;deep sweep& #39; shown here by @AnadoluEfesSK.
ACTIONS: Last week we said our teams need a method to create advantages (called & #39;actions& #39; or & #39;triggers& #39;). This week we showed the most popular actions in the international game, starting with PNRs. We encouraged all our coaches to play more Mid & Angle PNR (instead of Side PNR).
ACTIONS: Next grouping of actions are & #39;Shooting actions& #39; (or off ball screens). Here& #39;s one of my favs from @BasketballCL team, @basketnymburk - Screening Entry, Touch Action, into Rip + DHO. Notice how each action flows one to the other at high speed to keep pressure on D.
ACTIONS: Posting sets are still part of the https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🌏" title="Asien-Australien auf dem Globus" aria-label="Emoji: Asien-Australien auf dem Globus"> game, but but instead of just being the sole purposes of getting your bigs an opportunity to score, teams are using the low post as a dangeous playmaking location. See here @JerusalemBasket post up their guard to run action off him.
ACTIONS: After the main action of the set, coaches need to consider what happens next. Are you flowing into your & #39;play after the play& #39; automatics? Do you flow into a scripted action after - Like this 45 cut after the main Mid PNR action from @RMBaloncesto.
AUTOMATICS: Things that happen when other stuff happens. One example is penetration automatics: How will your team space the floor when the ball is driven into the lane? BSA coaches are using a conceptual framework for pen autos: drive at = space away, drive away = fill behind.
