Photo is from August 2018, upper UC Santa Cruz
*currently evaculated, (its 2020!)

Sure picked a good time to prescribe fire on the rare, but extremely flammable northern maritime chaparral! @CALFIRECZU @CALFIRE_CHIEF @UCSC
It hadn't burned in over 40 years! #CZULightningComplex
This may not look great to your eye, because all of those trees out there on the edge, but if you know this landscape, you know that is off Chinquapin Rd., those trees in the distance fall into the Wilder Creek drainage. That is the last ditch fire line north of Moore Creek.
The photo above is not the upper campus fire line, but the contingency fire line. It is connected to the contingency line set up the other night on the western entrance of the UCSC campus. That’s Wilder creek drainage again way in the distance in the photo below. HT @dytakagi https://twitter.com/dytakagi/status/1297267461507575808
BTW, any of you who are thinking about building new @ucsc buildings up in upper campus, like they’ve been trying to do all those years,
(i’ve seen the dumb & dumber versions of the long-range development plans around here.)

BAD IDEA.
