Yesterday an editor KILLED themselve and it’s in a way because of the bullying they received on Instagram! PLEASE READ MY THREAD!!!!!
First of all, let’s just pray for this person, this angel who joined sky too fast. I want everyone who read this to realise what happened and keep them in your hopes.
Ok so now imma tell you the story. This editor had an account on Instagram were they made edits. They were harassed by their followers, at the point that they killed themselves yesterday. So yes maybe this editor had some problem besides instagram but still
When social media should be a bonus in your life, for them it becomes hell. At the point that if they weren’t okay « irl » they didn’t have a safe place at all anymore since they received lots of harassment on social media. Life became hell and dying was the only way to survive.
You might think this editor did too much (due to privacy and respect I won’t tell their name, I also use they/them cause I’m not sure of the pronouns) that killing themselves was overreacting but you don’t realise how hard it is to have an editing acc.
You put pressure on yourself because you want to be active, you want to post at least every week but school, private life, mental and physical health, just life sometimes doesn’t give you enough time to be active.
You have so much pressure on your back because you have followers that are waiting for you to post, and it’s not posting scraps. They follow you because they want your best edit you made on after effect and spent 10 hours on it.
The lack of motivation, inspiration, audios, transition, time... those are the reason you can’t expect an editor to be active all the time. And yesterday an incredible beautiful editor passed away due to that harassment.
Maybe they had some problems irl but harassment because of the editing community is one of the reason they decided to end it all. By this story I want EVERYONE to realise what impact social media can have. Words are a powerful weapon and it has to be used very well.
Maybe you don’t care about the hate you receive on social media, then great for you, but you never know what happens irl in a person life and how they will react to an insult. May this tragic death teach everyone, be kind with each other so no one has to die again.
If you think I’m no one to talk about it, I’m myself and editor and it happens that I spent days on edit and then deleted it because they weren’t good enough. The pressure you put on yourself to make the best edit is something non-editors will never understand
Be kind with someone you don’t know, if you see harassment stop it, protect the victim. Don’t let anyone insult someone else and ask for help if someone does it to you. You can dm me if you need something, I’m here for you and will do my best.
Again, let’s hope for this editor and don’t let their death being forgotten. Use this death as the lesson, open your eyes on how much social media can be toxic and please, if you see any type of bullying ACT! Thanks if you read it all, and keep this editor in your mind
