A thread of the greatest overhead kick goals ever scored.

No particular definition of overheads, some of these might come under the aerial volley category. Let’s not get hung up about that.

Feel to nominate your favourites later if you think they might be missed off.
Let’s start with the best one, because it’s the best one.

Trevor Sinclair for QPR against Barnsley in the FA Cup in 1997. He’s the last player to win the BBC Goal of the Season while playing outside the Premier League.

It’s so good.
The overhead kick is also known as a “Chilena” thanks to its South American origins.

And one South American who was a fine exponent of the art was Hugo Sánchez. This, against Logrones in 1988, was probably his best.
Philippe Mexès only scored 31 goals in his entire career. There’s absolutely no doubt that this was the pick of the bunch.

What a goal for a centre back to score. Ridiculous.
Manuel Negrete overhead goal number 1: does it lose marks for the self-assist or gain them? Does it matter?

Considering this was scored in Mexico back in 1984, we should probably be grateful that the footage exists at all. Great goal.
Manuel Negrete overhead goal number 2: at the World Cup!

I maintain that if this had been scored by a more famous player, it would be considered one of the best goals in the history of the sport.
Not every goal in this thread was scored on the biggest stage. This is Rory Fallon for Swindon Town in the third tier of English football back in 2003/04.

Fallon played in a World Cup for New Zealand later - not sure he ever topped this goal though.
