its strange to think that the thought of a totally free and open internet seems so radical and out there. I think the foundation is there, crypto, open source, peer to peer, and all the values that come with all of them. certain things need to mature but its just a matter of time
not to say nothing good has come out of what we have currently, where almost everything is kinda aggregated into a few different social medias, but of course PLENTY of garbage has come from it. Privacy, political, divisiveness issues just to name a few.
If the internet was the worlds revolution of the past 20-30 years, truly decentralizing it will be the next one. Obviously won't solve all of the issues of the web, but I'm optimistic that it will put us on a better path as society.
I think one thing is that it would create a better mindset, that people deserve a better internet. Once people see it happen, things start opening up elsewhere in their lives. Politics, government, whatever.
Even with little things, people resist change for one reason or another. Think about adblock. Some people refuse to use adblock, cuz they wanna support people. But what if so many people used adblock that companies had to adapt and find a more consumer friendly way to make money?
People forget that things adapt. Piracy was rampant in mid-2000s because the internet gave us an easier solution than buying every single album we wanted. Then iTunes came out and we could buy the songs we wanted. Then Spotify came out and now we have any song we want for FREE.
Imagine that principle, the fact that consumers and the general public can basically force the hands of tech, they follow what WE want. I think that's one of the things that keeps me optimistic about the future of the internet.
anyways all that shit has been on my mind CONSUMING MY THOUGHS I SWEAR TO GOD I CANT STOP THINKIN ABOUT THIS SHIT IVE FALLEN OVER THE EDGE AND I CANT GO BACK NOW AHHHJ DEEPWEB CRYPTOCURRENCY SILLICON VALLEY THE MATRIX ALL THAT SHIT ITS ALL MAKING ME LOOSE MY MIIIIIIND AH
