So there has obviously been a lot of discussion about the nature of consent in gaming and among gamers, but what about the nature of consent among non-gamers who are forced into a game they don’t want to play simply by virtue of physical proximity? Because it’s a problem.
Is it fair to play games involving killing and violence around someone with severe PTSD, even if you know you’re making that person uncomfortable, scared, or terrorized? It might be a game, but maybe think about what you’re doing when your hobby becomes someone’s nightmare.
I’m gonna go ahead and say yes, gaslighting is always immoral and often a sign of serious pathology, even when it involves “funny” pranks like placing tiny objects in someone’s purse or under the door just to see their reaction.
