It’s super fucked up that we’re supposed to give white people “time and space” to learn how to not be racist while black people are expected to be “patient” while people they are experiencing interpersonal and systematic racism daily
It’s also hella bothersome when people are like “they were a teenager; they should be held accountable for their racist youth!” bc being a young black kid growing up with a lot of either closet or overtly racist classmates did a number on my mental health and self-esteem
If I was old enough to be experience racism, my classmates and my grown ass teachers were old enough to learn how to treat black and brown people with respect
Anyway, white people, check your white friends on their racism. Your black friends are tired, and we shouldn’t have to solve a problem we didn’t create
This thread just reminded me of how my high school principal assumed my parents didn’t go to college bc I was black and then won an award for “promoting diversity in the city” and I hope he’s having a bad night :)
Also the principal who made me comfort a girl who started crying when she was told that she can’t call me a monkey? Electric chair I hope she’s having a bad night too
