I saw at least 10 people tonight, all without masks, obviously on their way to a party. Not only that, tons of people are wearing masks around campus incorrectly, either not covering their noses or basically wearing chin straps. @TempleUniv we need to be proactive, not reactive.
There are 7 cases already, and that’s just from those who have been tested.
We don’t even have the information on step-by-step how to get a test. This is information myself and my team of journalists have been trying to get for a while now, and if this information is available, it’s not obvious as to how this can be accomplished.
I am aware and sympathetic to the fact that this is new territory for everyone including the University, and it’s difficult to have all the answers.
However, a hashtag, testing site, and a couple of masks aren’t fixing the problem. It’s putting a band-aid over a crack in a dam. I am less and less confident in Temple’s opening and in human beings’ ability to care for others.
Don’t say “this is a free country” and take advantage of and disrespect the words in our Constitution. This is not you enacting your “right” to not wear a mask. This is you disregarding the literal lives of friends, family, strangers, and of course, your own.
I’m proud to be an owl. But now, at this very moment, with all I’ve witnessed in a matter of days before classes have even started, I am not proud of a lot of my fellow owls.
Tips on how to wear a mask:
-do NOT touch the front of your mask, only touch the loops for your ears
-put it in the laundry after you use it
-cover your mouth AND nose, no chin straps or earrings
-once again, DO NOT TOUCH THE FRONT OF YOUR MASK
-gaiters don’t count
I appreciate all of those who have read through this thread. Just a reminder that opinions are my own. <3
