2/6 FACT: Wait times in BC for ortho surgeries are HIGHER than Alberta.
In BC 90% of patients receive hip replacement within 281 days. In Alberta, 273 days.
In BC 90% of patients receive Knee replacement within 323 days. In Alberta, 315 days.
(CIHI)
4/6 again wait times for hip & knee replacement and hip fracture repair, are still higher in SK than AB.
On the flip side, Alberta with its FULLY private diagnostic tier, has much higher wait times for MRI and CT scans than the rest of Canada http://waittimes.cihi.ca/procedure/mri?show=5090#year
5/6 In the end the problem of high surgical wait times is only going to be tackled by redirecting public spending towards preventative interventions. No one should be pre-destined to need hip replacement in our society. https://twitter.com/TomLangeYYC/status/1293669829266866177
6/6 I will end with a complement to the author for acknowledging the persistence of health inequity owing to the fact that our health system has gaping holes like dental care... but somehow I doubt the author will endorse my proposal for universal dental care...
