“i’m an activist. i love all the minorities. i f*cking hate religion though. they’re so oppressive. i was raised in the church and they taught me to hate myself for being [LGBTQ+] every day. i just can’t accept people who are religious. i’m not islamophobic or antisemitic tho :)”
i’m not even gonna say stop talking about religion when you mean christianity. i’m just saying stop talking about religion when you mean people who use their religious texts from thousands of years ago to be oppressive today
it honestly just shows a lack of understanding about religion to say that anyone who believes in God or the bible is homophobic. like of course there are religious people who are homophobic and transphobic.
there are also people who love their religion and make it work with their present-day values. there are LGBTQ+ synagogues. most denominations will marry same-sex couples. it’s such a dense take to say that all religion is bad
like you’re clearly not supportive of religious minorities then!!! the point is that we ARE religious. yes, judaism is an ethnoreligion so it’s very complicated but there are antisemitic tropes that are targeted not just at our ethnicity (see blood libel).
say that you stand up for racial minorities then if you’re not gonna support jews and muslims (and other religions but he didn’t mention them in the video). i’m so sick of people who claim to be progressive generalizing religion as a whole.
i understand why there is a lot of resentment because of extreme homophobia coming from religion. as with any other group... your experiences are not representative of the whole. reform judaism is based around social action like ???
this is what i’m talking about in the whole thread if ur confused https://twitter.com/fibromyaigaga/status/1296716451441762304?s=21
