Late night musing: growing up Asian was the worst preparation for being a creative. Self-promotion, individualized goals, lack of career stability...these creative career characteristics are things that are discouraged in traditional Asian cultures. Unlearning that has been HARD.
Even now I feel icky abt doing self-promo, or taking pride in my accomplishments. I hear my parents' voices yelling, "Be humble!!" It's much easier for me to boost friends and be proud of them. Finding a balance b/w the two is so difficult, but I've been getting better, I think.
Not sure if other Asians feels the same, or differently. These are just some thoughts from a creative Asian kid who grew up in a very traditional, rigid Asian household lol
