Okay Because I like doing interesting things and sharing history, the book that was against fascism that became recommended reading for Neo-Nazi the Iron Dream. A book meant to satire that ended up becoming much different.
The idea is simple it's an alternate history where Hitler became a pulp science fiction author, and wrote stories about ideals as Pulp science fiction characters very much in that Conan way. It was Norman Spinard attempt to deconstruct that style.
See HP. Lovecraft and Robert E Howard are look we all know they are terrible racists whatevers, I mean we have an HBO show about it, but let's be honest about there work here. and who they were as people.
Both were very messed in different and similar ways but created very much the roots of popular fantasy, horror, science fictions so the idea of playing up those nasty aspects about them. The idea that Hitler could be one of them might be appealing on that level.
But here's the truth, a lot of fiction is power fantasy even the best of it. One of the reasons Hero of thousand faces exists is note how common it is between cultures of different places. So it's very hard to call any work inherent like that in my opinion.
and the truth is hero stories are common they are not just a Nazi thing. Like at any culture and we love heroes so calling it a Nazi obsession when it could be argued to be a HUMAN obsession, Jewish creator decided to create a story about Thor for crying out loud.
My point being is that some issues are just separate and common among people at least to me. I mean if you compare propaganda WHICH I HAVE DONE FOR FUN, how much does all of them use the same tactics?
So Conan let's talk about him Conan want only one thing Freedom to do whatever he wants. He rules a kingdom but hates it and wishes to be the free barbarian he used to be. Does that sound like Hitler exactly?
Hp Lovecraft, we as HUMAN ARE JUST FUCKED. That's horror if your looking to horror for a positive outlook on humans....what the fuck are you doing.
But here's the thing both HP and Robert were messed up people holding terrible views on people and things. They were of there time but none of them lived a nice like both men died in a way that frightens me. One died alone and one committed suicide.
So Norman had a point and view for his novel that was meat to you know point these issues out, but they were not the only ones to be fair but how can white supremacists like his book when Robert and HP aren't famous for it. Well...
The book is mostly what Norman thinks HITLER WOULD HAVE WROTE as a novel so it's basically a power fantasy for Nazi's. About making the perfect race and how the Hitler lived this life instead of it pointing out the issues in these stories it ended up reading like a power fantasy.
and now you know the problems of satire. The truth is that power fantasy is so common in fiction. That saying it's a Hitler thing is very much a stretch at best. I mean if you have like making your perfect master race okay yeah that would be fair.
I'm not implying anything about that series other then it's a power fantasy. Power fantasy is USED EVERYWHERE and if you miss this you can't really look at fiction well. Even in Marxist fiction. The Special is everywhere.
My point being that please look deeper then it's Hitler or who likes something. Because works are often more then one thing. Unless it's Harem we all know what we are here for....and that would also be unfair too.
So the book got published but the only reason I know about it at all is that I meant a nazi reading it. Me the Jewish man. So I did research, and the book is interesting as a thought experiment at the end of the day.
So what should we take from this? You never know who your audience will be and you can't judge a book by the people who read them. Books don't saying anything about the people, nothing is the truth. You can have TWO MILLION reasons to like or hate something.
