I wish the BBC cared as much about Doctor Who as they used to. We deserve more auxiliary media for this era. Doctor Who Confidential should be revived and there should be a fun light hearted companion show on CBBC that’s Totally Doctor Who style.
There should be WAY more merchandise, a new trading card game, a Pokemon Go style app where you help the Doctor complete missions, more action figures, Funko pops, Thirteenth Doctor lunchboxes, Dalek piggy banks, TARDIS Lego sets, a Doctor vs Master Nintendo Switch game, + more.
Mandip & Tosin should have guest presented CBBC in February half term, the whole cast should have individually done Saturday Mash Up, Jodie should have been in Dictionary Corner on Cats Does Countdown, Mandip on Would I Lie To You, and HOW has there not been a DW Chase special!?
Doctor Who Adventures was axed due to low circulation but there are ways of reaching out to young people. Behind the scenes features posted on the CBBC website, cast interviews, games and quick fire challenges, maybe even a Who podcast presented by one of the production team.
The best content since S12 finished was Emily Cook’s watch-a-longs and the bonus material, and that was all DESPITE the BBC not because of them! When people are doing a better job of promoting your show for free than those that you’re paying are, you need to rethink strategy.
And repeats! I know fewer people are watching TV live but you could always reliably get the week’s episode shown 6 days later on BBC Three and even when new episodes weren’t airing, the show would be consistently shown again on BBC Two / Three.
Due to corona there’s so much less content ready to go, so let’s revisit some fan favourite episodes, get showing classic series episodes on weekday mornings on BBC Two! Let’s show S11 & 12 again in the early evenings on Saturday nights. Keep the buzz going!
When I was a kid, I was surrounded by Doctor Who 12 months of the year. You couldn’t move for merchandise and interviews and TV specials and repeats of the most recent series, and that was beautiful. Doctor Who should be a never ending EVENT. It deserves to be an event.
Honestly, I just want the show to be relevant again. I want it to be “water cooler conversation” & I want it to be in the public consciousness.

Please, BBC, start taking it seriously.

I would DIE for something even half as good as this was at the time.
OH and they should adapt the small scale stories professionally for the stage!

A 12 month residency in the West End, 4 months of Midnight, 4 months of Listen, 4 months of The Chimes of Midnight, with Paul McGann & Peter Davison alternating as the Doctor throughout.
And spin offs! A Jo Grant / Ace alien busting show for CBBC and a new show for teens / adults featuring Jo Martin and The Division that adds more depth to the Timeless Child backstory. Maybe they could do alternating Paternoster / UNIT specials every few months too.
They could use this as a great opportunity to train up the next showrunner. Maxine Alderton as head writer for The Division show with Chibs and Strevens overseeing and Who veterans McTighe & Patel overseeing the CBBC show. Basically, why am I not in charge!?
