We just had a really disturbing experience.

This morning, Day 164, masked up, I decided it was worthwhile to take a drive, and hopefully get the kids out for a hike in Crystal Cove state park.

For those who don't know, it's a cliffside park with a path down to the Pacific.
Wide open and usually pretty empty on a good day.

This was our first time out of the house in almost six months.

To get there from where we live, we have to drive west, then through downtown Laguna Beach, then up the PCH.
The first bad sign was that five miles from downtown Laguna, we hit a traffic jam. And not a small one. I looked at passing cars and cyclists and no one was wearing masks.

Then we hit downtown Laguna. The farmers' market was open. No social distancing. Parking lot was packed.
No masks.

Then we hit the intersection with the PCH, which faces the Pacific and is surrounded by shops. We saw *maybe* a dozen people wearing masks, including a guy who had is nose exposed but not his mouth.

Jam packed.
We turned right on PCH. The biggest brunch place in Laguna had a line out the door. No social distancing. Only a few masks.

Proceeded up the PCH through town. Pedestrians everywhere. No masks. No masks. No masks.

Passed the beach. No social distancing. Very few masks.
The whole way, my daughter was shouting:

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM? DON'T THEY KNOW ABOUT THE VIRUS?

We got to Crystal Cove. We couldn't turn into the parking lot because the park rangers had blocked it off.
Not because the park was closed, but because the lot was already too full.

NO MASKS.

So we turned around and went home.
There is a mandatory mask order in OC right now.

Restaurants are not supposed to be open for indoor dining.

Ten days or so ago, we had 1100+ new cases in one day.

No one cares.
Absent national leadership, we're going to be inside for another year.

I turned the car around and came home.

My kids are setting up a "beach party" in the living room.

While I stand here seething. Just full-stop seething at what we could be doing right now if we had a leader.
