Ranking “Baby One More Time” above “Crazy In Love” in any capacity is anti-black, misogynoir, ableist, environmentally destructive, white supremacist, pro-Israel and in otherwise poor taste!!!
on the real tho, the only reasons BOMT ranked above CIL for some is 1) Britney’s was the first breakout of the white girl pop-appropriators of the time and 2) we grew up familiar with Beyoncé. It’s an unfair comparison and CIL is a better song tho both are lyrically troubling.
Please point to one non-melodic/non-lyrical bit of iconography in BOMT. CIL has iconic percussion, kick pattern, even CYMBALS! BOMT has a white girl giving sub T-Boz vocal fry and one musical motif! Please! Everything else? Mid.
There is not a wasted track on CIL. Not one!
Let’s not get into the video/image. Britney claimed pedophilic Japanese school girl fantasies. Bey? Literally staked claim to basic denim shorts & a silver (shiny/white) halter top so much so that ANY capitulation of the look was related to her. They were BASICS. Iconic
If I said “Do the ‘uh oh uh oh uh oh oh no no,” what y’all finna do?

Now do the “Oh behbé behbé”. I’ll wait.
BOMT more iconic than CIL as a debut?
