One quote from @JamesClear that has had biggest impact on my productivity is actually a simple one :
"Stop thinking about environment as filled with objects.Start thinking about it as filled with relationships."

And then decide what kind of relationship would you want with objects kept in those areas.
By giving greater control of my environment, WFH gave me an opportunity to further boost up productivity. I used some concepts to keep myself perfectly charged always.

To share my learnings, here is a thread on the role of different cues in your environment on productivity :
James rightly says, Behaviour is a function of the person in their environment.

B = function (Person, Environment)

And, visual cues are the greatest catalyst of our behavior. For this reason, a small change in what you see can lead to a big shift in what you do.
Be the architect of your environment to fill it with positive cues and reduce the unproductive ones.

Few changes that I made to the environment around me which has helped me the most are :

1. Moved my book rack near my workstation
2. A well organized workstation with no unnecessary clutter.
3. Kept my phone away when I need to concentrate to avoid unnecessary whatsapp and social media usage.
4. Set right temperature of the room to avoid any lethargy.
5. Have a glass of water always handy on my table.
Some activities worth your time:-

A. Make a list of all the objects in your environment and categorize them as positive cue or negative cue.
- Do this exercise in the context of every habit. Whenever possible, avoid mixing the context of one habit with another. When you start mixing contexts, you will start mixing habits and the easier ones will always win out.
For example: Keeping a phone handy may boost productivity for some during the day but may be a distraction for your sleep late in the night.
B. Separate your workspace for different activities.

Examples:

- Dress up and go out of the house and come back again to your workplace when you start your work day even if you are working from home.
- Have a different wallpaper on the wall in front of your workspace.
- Use different rooms/sitting places for different purposes.

C. Its easier to associate a new habit with a new context than to build a new habit in the face of competing cues.
When you step outside your normal environment, you leave your behavioral biases behind. You are not battling old environmental cues, which allows new habits to form without interruption.
Best if it is a week long trip to a nearby beach or a mountain. You should wait a little for the vaccine though 😝

But this could be a good idea if you want to

- Get rid of an old addiction or habit, or may be build a new habit.
- Reorient & Re-energize yourself or your entire team towards a new challenge that you want to take up. The importance of big announcement in a new environment would get compounded several times .
