I'm convinced some educators think education should feel physically uncomfortable to students.. "no you can't sit there" (bc then you'd feel comfortable), "no you can't eat" (bc then you'd feel satisfied), "no you can't wear your hoodie up" (bc then you'd feel cozy & safe), etc.

Learning should be joyful and does not require denying oneself or others material/physical comfort. I will gladly die on this hill.

You know how James Baldwin said he loves the US & that's exactly why he criticizes it constantly? I feel the same about education. I love it & what we do & that's exactly why I will not be shy in offering criticism. I love us & we can do better & must do better.
