In the world of Tinder, Pick Up Artists and rampant sluttery, very little attention is paid to the negative impacts of sleeping around.
But ignoring these problems doesn't mean they don't exist.
And believe me, the effects of promiscuity are devastating.

So deeply damaging is promiscuity that entire social structures were set-up to shame those who participated in the behaviour.
Not out of spite, but out of protection.
So how exactly is promiscuity damaging? And to what extent?

Promiscuity damages the emotional well-being of those who participate in it.
For example, sexual promiscuity is highly correlated with anxiety, depression and substance abuse.

Whilst there is an element of chicken and egg here, engaging in casual sex undoubtedly causes a downward spiral; a descent into hell.
And this affects both men AND women.

For men, promiscuity primarily causes damage in the ability to pair-bond and be loving towards future partners.
This plays into the second area we shall examine, so I will put that aside for now.

Women who engage in casual sex do internal damage to themselves as it causes a mild trauma, an effect which is inherent to female biology.
Due to evolutionary principles, women have an in-built desire for protection and commitment from their partner.

So, when a woman has sex with a man it means she admits to trusting him to care for her.
If he then leaves her after making love, she internalizes this rejection. This causes insecurity, anxiety and -- if continued -- deeper mental health problems.

A quick scroll through Social Media on any given day soon confirms this as true.
And this was implicit within our ancestor's understanding of the world.
There's a reason marriage is sacrosanct in every culture and religion around the world.
Chance would be a fine thing.

And when women on a widespread scale suffer from the consequences of this behaviour, it leads to the second of our problems.

It makes it near -- not absolutely -- impossible for a man to commit to one woman.
Indulging in porn plays a similar role, but we'll leave that aside for now.

And so the cycle continues.

The end result of these problems, which have been manifesting for decades, is the world we live in today.
Order is breaking down, drug abuse is rife and mental health issues are skyrocketing.
The root of it all?
Promiscuity.
