Last night, former division 3 basketball player Duncan Robinson ( @D_Bo20) did something historic by making 7 3's in the playoffs for the @MiamiHEAT

Let's take a look at just how improbable his meteoric rise to @NBA superstardom has been...

A thread 🧵👇🏻
Growing up in New Hampshire, Robinson was just 5'7" his freshman year of high school.

By the time he was a junior, he hadn't grown much and still wasn't getting much playing time on a lousy team.

But then... something changed...
In the summer between his junior and senior year of high school, Robinson's height skyrocketed 📏🚀

He went from 5'7" to 6'7" so fast that none of his clothes fit anymore!
With hard work and a few more inches, he started to play more his senior year of high school... but despite a dream of playing college basketball, no D1 schools were interested.

Instead, he decided to bet on himself by taking a postgraduate year at Phillips Exeter Academy.
At Phillips Exeter, Robinson blossomed from an undersized point guard to a towering 6'8" forward.

He dropped 24 pts and 10 rebounds in his final game, taking home MVP honors as his team was crowned NEPSAC Class A champions...

Yet.... still no D1 schools offered!
Despite another setback, he bet on himself again... this time at one of the top D3 basketball programs in the country; Williams College.

Robinson dominated. He went on to win the National ROY award and led his team to the national championship game.
His unprecedented season at Williams caught the eye of then Michigan head coach John Beilein.

But it wasn't the basketball that attracted Robinson to Michigan...

He never imagined having a shot at the NBA, so he picked the school based on academics!
After 3 years at Michigan, he matched his success at Williams, but this time at the D1 level.

In 2018, Michigan reached the D1 National Championship where they fell to Villanova.

Robinson's game excelled and he finished 4th on Michigan's all-time 3PM list.
Side note... Robinson got low-key yoked in college and put on 20 lbs of muscle. 🏋🏻‍♂️💪🏻😤
Despite going undrafted in the 2018 NBA draft, he signed with the Heat's summer league team where was able to secure a G League contract.
After playing just 161 minutes last season, Robinson started 68 games this year and had ONE OF THE BEST SHOOTING SEASONS OF ALL TIME; shooting 45% from 3P.

(Btw, that means he joins @StephenCurry30 as the only players in NBA history with a season of 240+ threes on 45% shooting)
Now he is absolutely torching (no pun intended) the Pacers in the playoffs shooting 56% from deep to give the Heat a 2-0 lead. 🏀🔥☠️ https://twitter.com/i/status/1296532291158564864
Kudos to you, @D_Bo20!

You're an inspiration that shows hard work and believing in yourself pays off!

(Now, if only you could have done this before my D3 hoops career as a 6'4" center flamed out in '09) 🤣🤣🤣

Good luck the rest of the way!
