I don't know who needs to read this but being a fan of something whether you're fully invested or casual about it, is not and will not ever be a full time job.
It's a hobby and you should never feel or be pressured into doing or giving more than your actual means.

Being a fan means w/e you like brings you enough joy that you have adopted it into your lifestyle in some manner.
Joining a fandom is a means to find a community to share your common interests and varying opinions. It's an outlet to find like-minded individuals to bond with.

What it does not mean is conformity. It's a bubble yes, but it's not an echo chamber
It isn't a hierarchy. No one is in charge. There are no real rules or guidelines on how to be a fan
If you PERSONALLY want to follow suggested activities, that's your choice, but no one HAS to.

And it seriously does not matter, if you were there from the get or joined in an hour ago.
Literally a community can not grow if it just stagnates with the first group of people who signed off on it, that defeats the point.
Gate-keeping is pointless and counterproductive.

Fandoms are intended to be a means of escapism.
If it feels like a job or burden, then something is wrong.
If you feel stressed by it, than that's a bad sign & you need to take a step back and figure out what needs to change before you begin to resent what you came to support.

Anyway I don't tweet this seriously usually but I don't like the narrative that there is a "proper way to be a fan"
No one needs to be policing anyone
The only rule that should matter if you gotta have one is don't be an asshole - like blatant harassment not a differing opinion

I'm not speaking to any group in particular, all fandoms have this problem
It's why it's also important to acknowledge that you can be a fan and not participate in a fandom
Seriously that is sometimes the best option, and don't be afraid to take it

You deserve to have fun
