Hold on now. I finally put on Netflix’s SWEET MAGNOLIAS as background noise but then this pastry chef with the deep voice poured out a lil sauce and 👀
Helen (Heather Headley) wants children but she's getting older. People keep telling her she has time and she just said "i may have time, but i do not have prospects" and i felt that down to my marrow. #SweetMagnolias
it's funny. the town of Serenity, South Carolina (and even Blue Bell, Alabama on #HartOfDixie) is more diverse than some current tv depictions of NYC. #SweetMagnolias
Just finished episode 6. I was mad skeptical about this show bc I don’t care for closed-door romances or moody teens who are all “you’re not my dad!” but I am hooked. #SweetMagnolias
Chef Erik: a fine ass pastry chef & former EMT who punched out a volatile dude to defend the honor of a woman he’s not related to or romantically involved with?
Coach Cal gives me Christopher Reeve/Superman energy. I don’t like Ryan. He can kick rocks. Bill is also trash city. #SweetMagnolias
Now Isaac is clearly Peggy’s child. She was out of town for a year during high school, and in small southern towns that always means somebody had a secret shame baby. #SweetMagnolias
There are also heavy sprinkles of Christianity, which, okay. Small southern town. It would be odd without it. At first I was like please don’t preach at me but then Pastor June hit me with something I felt in my chest, and I said okay. lol #SweetMagnolias
I’m gonna mangle this paraphrase but Pastor June told Helen something like “when you’re operating the lemon stand, sometimes you forget you get thirsty too so step away from behind the table and replenish yourself.” Come on, Jesus! #SweetMagnolias
This is a really sweet show that’s actually kinda perfect for right now. Drama, mystery, longing, sweet humor, people figuring out a new normal without over-burdening the audience with “grittiness” or excessive puzzle pieces. #SweetMagnolias
Ep 7 has me way too emotional. Chef Erik said that learning to bake helped him manage grief after the loss of a loved one. He finally had a set of instructions for something & when he followed them, everything turned out as it was supposed to. 🥺🥺 #SweetMagnolias
Meanwhile Maddie finally signed divorce papers and is sad she doesn’t feel as sad as she think she should so she’s learning there is no checklist for grief or moving on. #SweetMagnolias
This is all hitting me bc I’ve been struggling with the “proper” way to deal with the pandemic. Everyone is baking, getting green thumbs, knitting, learning new stuff, etc. and I’m just... using sheer force of will to hold on.
Maddie’s new beau Cal brought her ice cream bc he said it’s good for celebrating or for being sad, and even though they’re starting something new, it’s okay for her to mourn the end of her marriage. Then he gave her alone time so she could process without having to think of him.
And that scene really drove home for me why romances are so important (assuming that’s in the books). Women are laying out instruction manuals re: emotional intelligence and people scoff “lulz girly p•rn.”
Anyway. I love this soft ass show. #SweetMagnolias
HOT FARMER JEREMY 👀 #SweetMagnolias
Hot Farmer Jeremy has a *pristine* Skylark convertible. #SweetMagnolias
Please ignore the sound of my cat’s water fountain in the background but this scene just broke me down 🥺😩 #SweetMagnolias
Dana Sue’s ex came back, talking low and close, and he is fine as all get out. All three friends at some point have 2 men sweating them and ALL THE MEN LOOK GOODT. #SweetMagnolias https://twitter.com/clbergpowers/status/1297368892772409346
Wow, man. I really needed this show. 😭 Pour it over biscuits and serve me some more. #SweetMagnolias
