I find this so fascinating. https://twitter.com/kimKBaltimore/status/1295461903268040707
She's running for the late Elijah Cummings's seat, which he last won with 76% of the vote; it's clear her campaign + this ad ain't about winning the seat so much as raising her profile within the peculiar economy of Black Republicans.
Seems like it's working!

We did a whole ep abtt Black Republicans, which was one of my fav episodes to report.
In it, @coreydfields offered up a useful taxonomy: there are, broadly speaking, race-conscious Black Republicans and then there are race-blind Black Republicans. https://n.pr/34diHJd

Race-CONSCIOUS Black Republicans, generally speaking, want to change the party to make it less hostile to Black people (read: racist) to win over the many, many Black conservatives who currently vote for Democrats.
Race-BLIND Black Republicans, tho, as the label suggests, are invested in a kind of colorblind politics and are much more white-facing. They get institutional support from the party, bigger platforms, and they say the things about Black people that white Republicans want to say.
In Corey's research/embedding with Black Republicanss, he found that the negroes in both genera HATE each other.
anyway, this ad makes a lot more sense when you realize it's not actually *for* Black people or the Black voters in that district. Just look at all the people cosigning and RTing it â like the current occupant of the White House.
But not being a white, i forget just how white white people are?
after we got shouted out by Lululemon (
) a few months ago, i got a truly bizarre amount of DMs on IG from White People Who Want To Be Allies who really confounded by, like, Cand*ce Ow*ns and them?
after we got shouted out by Lululemon (

like, *sincerely* confused.
"so i joined an anti-racist reading group and bought the wristband and all that but then someone sent me this YouTube video of CJ Pearson and now I don't know what to think?"
it was a trip.

A NEW CHALLENGER APPEARS
unwinnable race in a deeply blue place, "i'm-not-like-those-other-Negroes" boilerplate, cosigns from white conservatives....

(They couldnât even find enough Black ppl to fill out her crimson-clad retinue in this ad.
)

...they had to create CGI negroes for her army.
