We know part of the reason GOT7 has been mistreated in the industry is cause of their foreign line. Jackson was being treated like a joke by Kshows, he has been very open about how he feels about it. The Korean music industry is really terrible to foreign idols.
I didn’t even touch the issues with Mark and BamBam here, but they exist and they’re terrible. We all know how Mark has been treated on the knetz but watch him on shows. He’s not often comfortable for a reason. BamBam’s treated like a punchline by mc’s too often.
We’ve seen huge racism towards Thai idols from the knetz as well. I can’t really articulate it all that well. But I do often think about how much harder they have it...
It bothers me how kfans say GOT7’s not popular in Korea so they must not have good music. People put way too much stock in Korea’s opinion of a kpop group. In GOT7’s case they have never been given a chance, they have no privilege in the industry. They’re constantly marginalized.
Kpop stans are part of the problem and honestly how kpop stans have ripped apart GOT7 and their foreign members is problematic. Jackson’s treated in a way that is completely sinophobic. Mark and BamBam haven’t been taken seriously as the artists they are.
The way people joke about GOT7’s rapline as if they’re not valid artists, valid rappers or valid idols is ridiculous. Kpop fans have said shitty judgmental things about these incredibly talented boys for not fitting into the kpop rapper molds.
They ignore the members contributions to the group and especially act like Mark and BamBam don’t matter. When both members are so important to GOT7 and have contributed on amazing songs. Both help carry the dance line and have rap voices that they developed themselves.
I feel like I cannot even articulate this well which is why I didn’t earlier but I hope this sparks more people to speak on it.
But sometimes I feel as if the treatment of Jackson, Mark and BamBam by international fans is just a reflection of how they’re treated in Korea.
I’ve never seen anyone’s rap picked apart as much as GOT7’s foreign line. When they did Nightmare live and owned the stage kpop fans didn’t even want to acknowledge they were wrong about them.
Adding that we could also talk about the foreign members being doxxed by saesangs, their addresses leaked online putting them in danger... JYP’s job is to protect them so this doesn’t happen but that company doesn’t care about them.
