Reading Harry Potter to my son is just filling me with rage. WHY are the teachers so absusive?! Snape is constant terrorizing Neville. Lockhart is obviously useless. Kids are wounded, killed, etc, and oh it’s just part of the wizarding world?

Physical appearance is emphasized OVER and OVER again as reason to dislike or despise people (Dudley being fat is hammered home), slytherian people being either blocky, large, or “snakelike” in appearance.

Re Lockheart - kids are paying HOW much to sit and listen to him tell stories about himself? WHY WAS HE HIRED?! George Weasley would have been a better defence against the dark arts teacher.

And why the fuck was Ron allowed to run around with a broken wand? Why didn’t a teacher fix it? Heck, why didn’t Harry send him an anonymous new one?

AND Hagrid, proven to be innocent in Mildred’s death, is still left without legitimate magic - a broken wand in an umbrella and no official clearing of his name?!

Seriously. I’m losing the magic and all I see is the abuse of power at every level - and this is only book two.
