What The Name Stands For

Wanna make this to educate myself even more and maybe help someone else learn 💕
THE FLAG

In 1978, artist Gilbert Baker was the first to design the flag (1) as Harvey Milk, an openly gay elected official in the US, had been requesting him to.

Because of the unavailability of the hot pink fabric it was changed (2) and later the turquoise stripe was gone (3)
MEANING BEHIND EACH STRIPE:

Hot pink — Sex
Red — Life
Orange — Healing
Yellow — Sunlight
Green — Nature
Turquoise— Magic/Art
Indigo — Serenity
Violet — Spirit

What Gilbert Baker said about choosing a flag as a representation:

“Our job as gay people was to come out, to be visible, to live in the truth...A flag really fit that mission, because that’s a way of proclaiming your visibility or saying, ‘This is who I am!’”

In 2017, black and brown stripes were added to draw attention to issues of people of colour (1).

In 2018, a white stripe in the middle was added to the original flag by Estêvão Romane (2). The flat was used in a Love Fest parade in São Paulo.
In 2018, Daniel Quasar made a new version of the flag, combining the flag made in 2017 and the transgender flag.

A lot of people choose this flag because “without these groups (black, brown and trans communities), we wouldn’t have Pride today”

Also, I have just seen this and it had truly taken my breath away. I knew things weren’t amazing but this..

I would like to recommend a movie/book called “Boy Erased”. It’s about gay conversion therapy and is based on a real story.
