The Zero Covid strategy is the only one that makes sense. Why live with a raging fire when we can put it out? Even if small fires arise afterwards, putting out small fires is better than living with it constantly, or putting out large ones.
Opening up with the virus is not realistic. It has a high cost in lives, disease, long term disability, and is an ongoing economic disaster.
While only 2 HUMAN diseases are claimed to be eradicated, many more have been "eliminated": driven to small numbers.
