the escapism chapter, thematic connections

1. the lakes- the ultimate romantic poetic dream of a divergence from society, to live in utter seclusion surrounded by the heartbreaking beauty of nature alongside the only other person who has ever truly understood you. Escaping into-
a life filled with zero responsibilities and expectations.

2. seven- a wistful look back onto childhood freedom, escaping into the past in order to return to a sense of wild serenity and ferocious naivety. To escape into memories of sipping sweet tea in the summer, swinging
above the creek, running through the weeds. The simplicity of it all and the strong will of children before they’ve been broken by life.

3. epiphany- a desperate hope for a better world. Experiencing all the trauma that life can bring, the hells created by humanity, and escaping
into an epiphany of a dream in short moments of sleep. Escaping into a moment when it all makes sense, when it’s all revealed to be worth it. A moment of peace, a break in the never ending horrors of reality.

4. cardigan- escaping into memories of young love, as you wrap
yourself in a cardigan you haven’t seen in many years. The scent reminding you of the passion, the adventures, the hopeful wide-eyed girl you once were. Dreaming about how it could have ended differently. What could happen if you ever tried again, just to see if the spark is
still there. If it would make you feel young again.

5. mirrorball- escaping into bright moments of your life, learning to hold onto what you have and to bask in all the happiness it brings you before it’s gone. Spinning in your highest heels like no one is watching, shinning
with joy for the ones who love you. Knowing that they understand you, that they are enamored with you despite the mess you have become. Holding onto that moment, that feeling, and escaping into it when you feel the real world creeping back in.

6. exile- escaping into a dramatic
film scene, the moment you finally leave the battlefield your relationship has become. Dreaming of all that you would say, all that you would do. The final straw that finds you leaving out the side door as he misses all the signs that led to this moment. The moment you’ve finally
broken free from the miscommunication, the heartbreak, the mind games.
Just a reminder as to what escapism entails/means and why I framed each song in the specific way I did:
