When I was 14 NPR was did this interview on a guy who was like “I’m Christian but I think we’re all actually in hell because humans are not designed to reach true satisfaction & here’s data on that” & I think about him at least once yearly & probably will for the rest of my life
He talked for like over an hour about how our greatest strength is adaptability but it’s also the primary issue because any moderate good we are given we are designed to normalize, just like pain we are given.
Then he talked about how even when we manage to get peak satisfaction, it loses luster after (if I remember corrrectly 3-5) years before our souls start yearning for More, and that it is the Yearning is our entire species’s Sisyphean hell. Ol’ dude was off the shits.
Me and my mom were sitting in that car ride to my school on the other side of town SILENT as FUCK and then I got out of the car like “have a.....day.....I guess.....” and she just said “bye” not even I love you, just “bye” and then drove off 😂😂😂
