𝖇𝖆𝖘𝖎𝖈 𝖎𝖓𝖋𝖔
dreamcatcher is a girl group under happyface entertainment that debuted jan 13, 2017 with the title track “chase me”. they’re known for their “nightmare” concept, unique rock sound, and difficult choreos.+

the group is made of seven members: (from left to right) yoohyeon, siyeon, jiu, sua, handong, dami, and gahyeon.

𝖍𝖎𝖘𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖞
before dreamcatcher was dreamcatcher, 5 out of 7 members (yoohyeon, sua, jiu, siyeon, and dami) were in a gg called “minx”, debuting sept 18, 2014 with the track “why did you come to my home?” minx had a more typical cute concept, popular in girl groups back then.+

though they had a comeback in july 2015 with “love shake”, they had to disband due to low success rates (their competition included groups like g-friend, and the cute concept they had stopped them from popping out). because the company sensed that the girls were talented,+

they didn’t give up on them, redebuting minx’s members and an additional two members—gahyeon and handong—as dreamcatcher in january 2017, drastically altering their sound/concept into the rock/horror based group you see today.

note: minx is considered to be a dark time for dreamcatcher members, so please try not to bring it up in front of the girls!

note†: though officially sua is lead rapper and gahyeon is a vocalist preceding rapper, in recent comebacks (starting from piri) gahyeon has taken over role of lead rapper and sua has become more a of lead vocalist, often singing the same parts as siyeon or yoohyeon.+

though i miss rapper sua (good night was legendary) i do think their current roles suit them much better :))

i’ve made a playlist of my favorite dreamcatcher b-sides (all from the official channel if possible so we can support the girls :D). i tried my best to pick songs that would display the diversity of their discography,+

but if you’re looking for a particular vibe, here’s a brief description* of them all:
*i am in no way a qualified professional on musical genres/sounds so take everything with a HEAVY grain of salt

𝑒𝓂𝑜𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃, 𝓁𝓊𝓁𝓁𝒶𝒷𝓎, 𝓅𝑜𝓁𝒶𝓇𝒾𝓈, 𝒹𝑒𝒶𝓇:
ballads; polaris and dear in particular are very special to somnies; all cry/comfort songs

𝓈𝒾𝓁𝑒𝓃𝓉 𝓃𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉, 𝒾𝓃 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒻𝓇𝑜𝓏𝑒𝓃:
often called sister b-sides; relatively quiet verses building up to an edm/instrumental drop; the end goes hARD; party songs

𝓌𝒽𝒾𝒸𝒽 𝒶 𝓈𝓉𝒶𝓇:
a sparkly, turquoise-colored twist on dreamcatcher’s usual sound; has a bright, tinny instrumental; laid-back comfort song; listen for a pick-me-up

𝓉𝓇𝒶𝓅:
an angsty motherfucker; drop goes hArd; kind of echo-y (?), lots of reverb; traditional rock combined with (what sounds like) piano in the instrumental

𝒿𝓊𝓁𝓎 𝟩𝓉𝒽:
nostalgic; a hollow-sounding, minimalist instrumental with what might be vibraphone or some other toned percussion; soft vocals; a little bit wistful; (imo) very different from dreamcatcher’s other releases

𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝓃𝑜 𝑜𝓃𝑒 𝓁𝑒𝒻𝓉:
described as “deep house” by youtube comments (idk if that’s accurate); a minimalist synth instrumental with brief orchestral buildup before the drop; chill vibes

𝓇𝑒𝒹 𝓈𝓊𝓃:
vampiric; a tinny, gothic instrumental played by what sounds like a harpsichord; moderate drive (has both a sick rap and sultry vocals)

𝒷𝓁𝒶𝒸𝓀 𝑜𝓇 𝓌𝒽𝒾𝓉𝑒:
an energetic, powerful michael jackson inspired track; features an upbeat guitar riff and heavy, bouncing bass in the chorus; fan favorite (had legendary stage outfits)

𝒷𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓀 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓌𝒶𝓁𝓁:
a slightly melancholy release reminiscent of old-school rock bands; a classic reverbing electric guitar instrumental; distorted vocals in the verses and a strong chorus mostly in the lower register
