Approximately 1/3 of the population of "Viking age" Scandinavia were thralls, 1% were in some way involved in Viking raids yet all Scandinavians see themselves as "descendants of Vikings"

In a strict sense Sicilians might be almost as much descendants of Vikings as Scandinavians are.

Viking society was never racialized but if anything blond hair probably signified descendancy from Eastern Baltic thralls while the ruling classes looked more "West European" with brown hair. This does not mean that there were no blond Vikings, all classes were multi racial.
