Armin Arlert
-theories, mysteries and thoughts-
- a thread -
Alright in this thread I wanna talk about our boi Armin, the theories around him and his importance in the story. Some of these are not facts and just my opinion so let's respect eachother's perspective 💛 (also ty for 300 moots)🎉
Armin Arlert, one of the main trio, is known for his intelligence and his ability to observe and analyze each situation.
Without Armin, its gonna be hard for the plot to even progress since he is such a valuable character.
Among the main trio, Armin's past is still a mystery. We got Eren, Mikasa, Levi, Connie, Sasha, Historia, Ymir and even other characters' backstories but Armin doesn't??
Some characters even have a whole episode for their backstories and we barely even know Armin's family except his grandfather back in S1. Its still a huge question to me as to why his family holds a book of the outside world.
Armin's parents are later on revealed as the couple who tried to fly according to Sannes. His parents actually tried to escape before the fall of wall maria and like what Armin said to Eren "My parents would soon go out to the outside world"
His parents are killed by the MPs leaving the Armin and his grandfather. According to Armin, his grandpa gave him the book. A book with the sun and clouds imprinted on the cover.
So does Armin's grandpa wanted to put Armin in danger by giving the illegal book or does he want to create hope that Armin could one day achieve what he and his parents cant?
So here comes the theories around Armin's family. I've read some of these theories and added my thoughts to it. One is Armin being a part of the Reiss family and another is being a part of the Tybur family.
The Reiss theory
-So Armin and Historia's relation is sometimes questioned due to their similarities and Armin eveb became her body double during S3. The theory is that one of Armin's ancestors was once part of the Reiss yet they somehow rejected/ rebelled or even had a forbidden
-relationship to another clan. And so they are banished from wall sina to shinganshina and managed to take some illegal valuables with them (the book).
This theory is somehow far-fetched since if Armin's somehow part of royalty he could've activated some of the powers inside Eren. But its an interesting theory though 👀
The Tybur theory
- This theory stands up to me since its really interesting and there could be some connections and parallels.
So the Tybur family are Eldian nobles and nation's highest autority. They lived their lives in luxury and away from those in Liberio. If the Reiss theory compares Armin and Historia, in this case we're gonna compare Armin with Willy.
Okay maybe a lot of you has seen their relation because if their distinct noses. Isayama said that Armin's nose is really unique and he and Willy kinda share the same.
And what about the book? Maybe way back 100 yrs, some of the Tyburs left with the king to paradis and later on got separated yet still holding on to the knowledge of the outside world.
Since the book itself could be from the property of the Reiss/ government or from the outside we can't be sure where it really originated.
One thing that fascinates me is that the Tyburs are interacting with the upper class men & women from around the world to improve the social standing of Eldians.
We could see how Willy managed to earn the trust and hearts of the people to support him and his plans..which kinda reflects Armin as well. Armin managed to speak up during ep10 defending Mikasa and Eren's titan ability.
And the parallel of Armin and Willy's powerful speech then literally at the end of both speeches Eren transforms? Hmm?😂
What if at the end of the story, Armin is indeed the narrator, telling the nations about their story and uniting them just like how Willy did back then.
Armin literally avoided death so many times throughout the story and it hints at his major purpose. Remember how many times his life is spared?
Back in Ep5 the titan that ate Eren didnt bother eating him as well; Ep10 when Eren blocked the canon, Annie not killing him too many times; he's saved from finding Reiner's hiding spot in the wall; gaining the colossal titan; saved from the explosion for Zachary...
YEAH... thats a lot of times

Just like how in Op2 "even if I'm the last one standing" and showing Armin covered in blood with only one candle lit up. I still hope we could learn more about Armin since after ch131, he's importance just became bigger in the story.
Its all going back to Armin's book..if the scarf connects Eren and Mikasa, then the book connects Armin and Eren. That book literally sparked their dream of being free.
Then compare that to the part where Armin narrates AoT's story from a book as well

As Armin Opened the book, it also opened their eyes...
And could Armin be the one also to Close the book and close their eyes...
I also read something about how our EMA trio could be like "descendants" of Eren Kruger, Kiyomi and Willy.. but that would be for a different theory 👀
So what do you think about Armin's past? Would Yams give the final twist of revealing it and connecting it all together?

Thank you for reading this far 💛
