My interpretation of Fine Line, the song ~ A thread
"Put a price on emotion
I'm looking for something to buy
You've got my devotion
But man, I can hate you sometimes"
This is the most poetic way I've ever heard to refer to the fact that you are numb. Absolutely drained to have the power to muster up any sentiments

But man, I can hate you sometimes"
This is the most poetic way I've ever heard to refer to the fact that you are numb. Absolutely drained to have the power to muster up any sentiments
And in a world where almost everything can be bought he's pleading for emotions to have a price, so he can buy them instead of feeling them
People sometimes do anything to become numb, and he is the opposite, he would do anything to not be numb. To feel something again, even pain

The second line, means he's deeply in love with someone, so even when they are fighting, he can still find a place in his heart to love them. He's powerless to this love, the desperate kind, and the fact that someone can hold that power over him makes him hate them but not the +
Hate hate, but more like "why am I so susceptible to you, why do you control me, why did you make me so defenceless"
He's absolutely devoted to that love, so even when they are hurting him, unintentionally even, he can't bring himself to fault them so he blames himself (falling)

"I don't want to fight you
And I don't want to sleep in the dirt
We'll get the drinks in
So I'll get to thinking of her"
He's too tired to fight, he just wants to give in, he's the one who always apologizes first (ftdt) but this time he knows he can't be the one to "fix" this

His songs allude to miscommunication between the two of them, but they also refer to the fact he wants to fix it and tries to apologize
But a relationship is between two people and they both have to make compromised and try their best.
But a relationship is between two people and they both have to make compromised and try their best.
He doesn't want to go to sleep alone but wants to be held by his lover, he doesn't want to fight and be left behind in the dust. Every time they try to talk, it ends up in an argument and he's too tired of that. So he agrees without meaning to.
He hopes they will open up to him (golden) and that they can work it out, he has hope they can make it through together. But for now, he chooses to ignore all their problems for the sake of not arguing anymore.
When he says he wants to bring out the drinks, so he can get to thinking of "her" he doesn't refer to a person but rather himself and his feminine side. Notice that this is the only line where it takes a fantastical edge in the song, the pov doesn't change, it's still all him
I think this because all the other verses he refers to them in the second pov (you) but here it directly says "her".
He has to be drunk to whole heartedly accept his feminine self, not because he's not accepting but because he's still coming to terms with it
He has to be drunk to whole heartedly accept his feminine self, not because he's not accepting but because he's still coming to terms with it
And it feels to say it aloud to anyone else. "She" exists only in his deepest thoughts for now and he doesn't want to share that part of himself with anyone right now (he refers to sailing away in the song she, probably because he's not ready to tell his friends & running is easy
Fine Line to him is all about self acceptance and self love and similarly, this is him still testing the waters, and how it feels to be deeply connected to his feminine side in a conscious manner
In his Interview with Rolling stones back in 2017, He mentioned that once he was with his friends on the beach he got too drunk and ended up swapping clothes and ended up in a dress and that's the only thing he remembered from the night. That feeling stayed.
He mentioned that Fine line was about a big moment of self acceptance, so most probably after HS1, he chose to bring his feminine side out and not hide it away. (Tutu, that black dress) we have gotten more actual dresses in that era. Because he liked that feeling of wearing one
[Chorus]
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line
This is the chorus of the song, and we come to the main point, what is the "Fine Line" he's talking about??
We'll be a fine line

We'll be a fine line
We'll be a fine line

I think it means to exist in each others space without being intruding.
This is to both his loved and his feminine side.
That maybe not now, but they will be a fine line, that they can be near and merged but still have a boundary of separation

He and his lover, when they get over themselves and talk everything out, they can exist like "the horizontal line when the sun sets down"
A line there but not quite
It's like the phrase "boundaries getting blurred"
A line there but not quite
It's like the phrase "boundaries getting blurred"
Same with his feminine side, that one day "she" can exist without him being drunk or just in his fantasies, but in real life too, with him being aware of her and her existing there (it's a part of him) but in daylight.
He and Her will be a Fine Line.
He and Her will be a Fine Line.
"Test of my patience
There's things that we'll never know
You sunshine, you temptress
My hand's at risk, I fold"
The fights are causing a strain on him too, but he won't voice his opinions out loud, some of his thoughts (subconscious ones too) are smth that won't be known by any

He refers to his lover as "golden", that they will always shine bright, and that his lover tempts him to throw caution to the wind and just be with them without worrying about anything in the world, ignoring the problems they have
Love is blind and he means it. He wants to be with his lover almost desperately, and they tempt him to do so by being themselves but he knows he will end up getting hurt by it. So he "folds" a poker term to save the last of your assets before you lose them
Here he is in risk of getting burnt (from that love only) so he gives in Because he cannot stand it anymore
(Not a breakup but more like "I don't want to fight you do whatever you want just let me love you please)
(Not a breakup but more like "I don't want to fight you do whatever you want just let me love you please)
"Crisp trepidation
I'll try to shake this soon
Spreading you open
Is the only way of knowing you"
Trepidation means anxiety, he has the fear of them letting him go, that cloud of doubt that hangs over him but he thinks he's in his head only and tries to "shake" it off of him

The last lines again refer to his lover opening up (they have their defences) and he feels that unless they are absolutely truthful, he won't ever get to know the true them.
Being open is the only way to get to know the real version of them, one without any guards.
Being open is the only way to get to know the real version of them, one without any guards.
The rest of the song is him repeating the words "we'll be a fine line, we will be alright"
but notice that the crescendo keeps on increasing, more like he is repeating it to convince himself that it will be and his hope also increases by each murmured line.

The song is a yearning of "i hope everything will be ok and I want to believe that it will be"
He ends his album on a hopeful note, one based on optimism.
He ends his album on a hopeful note, one based on optimism.
This was only my interpretation and this also leads me to believe that is the most painful song on his album.
And oh, Harry is a lyrical Genius and the King of adding metaphorical things to refer to his something without referring to it.

Do you want me to continue making these type of song Analysis or are you guys done with me???
Also, according to the Timeline of when he wrote the songs, Lights up and Adore you were among the Last so that leads me to believe that everything ended up being ok, He accepted himself, they worked it out and maybe that's why he put FL last Because his hopes came true
And that everything actually ended up being ok with everyone involved being right
