Has anyone asked the Kalinga, Itneg, Kapampangan, Caviteños, Negresenses, Manobo, Dumagat, Iranun, Tausug, et al, if they wanted to be called “Pacific Islander” or “Pasifika”? Has anyone asked them/us? I thought we were fighting for the rights of peoples to speak for themselves?

Before we even begin to zoom out and think of the networks to which we belong (which are huge and numerous), have we tried zooming in? The PH as a multiethnic nation with a single national language is problematic as it is, do we even need to drag other nations into this, too?
