Thread: I wrote about the unjust gatekeeping of neuroscience from Black and Indigenous academics to compile and introduce you to some of the voices I have been lucky to be listening to in neuroscience & academia. Thank you to Dr. Shardé Davis @DrShardeDavis and Joy Melody Woods, MA @smileitsjoy for starting the #BlackInTheIvory conversation. #ShutDownAcademia wouldn't have been the same without it. /2
I will cry if I think about it too much but not only have the #BlackInNeuroWeek organizers blessed our timelines & taught us about #NeuroRacism and helped people #HireBlackInNeuro but I am lucky enough to continue to talk with a number of them for #scicomm, EDI and plain fun! /4
I want to say thank you to The Society for Neuroscience @SfNtweets for conducing the 2017-2018 diversity assessment which highlighted the gaps we must work hard to mend (white faculty members = 76%, Black and Indigenous faculty = 1% and 0% of US neuroscience departments) /5
And I want to thank people like Dr. Marguerite Matthews @PhDeez for not only championing #BlackInNeuro scientists (both in real life and on twitter) but doing it with glamour and pizzaz. Your love is bright! /6
Finally, a huge thank you to Angeline Dukes @FutureDrDukes (again AKA superstar), Elena N. Dominguez @NeuroCurls (again AKA superstar), and Dr. Autumn Ivy MD PhD @AutumnSkyeIvy for their incredible "Becoming Anti-Racist" resource: https://twitter.com/futuredrdukes/status/1270777681294929920?s=21 /7
