So LOK/Lin Beifong fans always talk about how the scene when Amon takes her bending away (video) is the most heartbreaking. And while it’s absolutely sad, there is a more heartbreaking moment in book 1 for Lin.
In the finale, when everyone’s sitting around waiting for Katara to come out and say she’d been able to restore Korra’s bending Lin is insistent that Katara keep trying. When Korra finally appears and leaves, everyone watches her walk out except Lin. She looks down.
THIS MOMENT is the MOST heartbreaking. Because you have to think that Lin has essentially lost EVERYTHING at this point. She’s no longer Chief, she’s no longer a bender, she’s nothing. She sacrificed herself entirely to save the Avatar and Tenzin’s family and failed.
Amon got them and almost took away their bending, he took Korra’s. And y’all know she got there and was like no one worry about me, focus on healing the Avatar. But she so desperately needed it to work with Katara because if Korra got her bending back then she’d have hope.
So yeah, this moment when she just drops her head in defeat breaks me. A+ in subtle animation, Legend of Korra.
