What we've learned about COVID-19 is that it's extremely difficult to keep down for long. Many countries that were praised a few months ago for their response to it inevitably have had a spike at some point or another. India is just one example and is now the global epicenter.
Australia was lauded as the envy of the world, then has an outbreak...
South Korea has been "the model" in terms of testing and contact tracing but still having a mini-spike here...
Same in Hong Kong...
Argentina praised for "showing the world what a humane covid-19 response looks like", then few months later has its own outbreak which is ongoing...
"What Israel can teach the world about beating a pandemic" in May. Then has outbreak worse than the first in July/August...
South Africa "flattens its curve" with a "bold response," then has worst outbreak (to date) on continent a few months later...
Philippines lockdown for months ... then spike ...
"Humbled Greeks show the world how to handle the virus", now trending higher...
"What Japan can teach the world about the pandemic," then spike higher a few months later...
"How Costa Rica is winning the fight against coronavirus," now spiking higher...
"How Hawaii became a rare covid success story," now spiking higher...
"No lockdown, few ventilators, but Ethiopia is beating Covid-19" back in May. Now spiking higher...
