I'm finally trying to place my thoughts over the film that has become too close to me in the last five years. I still remember the day I watched the film, and the pleasant urge caused by the film to visit Kolkata ASAP. So.

Ramblings over Deepika Padukone's PIKU - A Thread. 🌹
When the film, The characters seem OTT, that discusses much of shit (literal shit). Bhaskor suffers from constipation, he loves to believe he is unwell all the time. Piku seems rational, but also over-affectionate towards her Baba. She is tough, & she doesn't forgive easily.
Piku is a pure character, She has a value system and quite particular about certain things. Rana appears happy-go-lucky, non-sentimental, detached person, but the way he subtly defends Piku over the accident thing shows his character. And Syed is a loyal friend and well-wisher.
Bhaskor is generally not a likeable person at all, but he is. It because of the empathetic texture of Juhi Chaturvedi's writing. How to 'manage' with the dad who gets deeply upset when his medical results turn up and he has nothing worry about? Poor Piku. She's graceful.😄
Bhaskor is such a father who can make a mole out of a mountain. Piku endures, it is affection, isn't it? And I love this scene where she rejects a person cos of two major blunders he does.

- He doesn't vote.
- Haven't watched a single Satyajit Ray film.

Beauty isn't? She. ❤️
The beauty of Juhi-Shooji's cinema is their character studies, and being extremely empathetic and graceful while presenting the characters and their eccentricities. The scatological (Toilet humour) jokes are actually refreshing. And I never knew Elvis Presly died of constipation.
I'm eternally fascinated by the Bengali Culture. I really admire the way they celebrate things. Piku is written in a way that too a lot happens in a scene, almost every dialogue makes sense. Piku calling Sex is a need, and Bhaskor proclaiming himself as an honest man, says a lot.
Bhaskor inspires to drive cycle like a Japanese 99-year-old-man. Rana has a deep regard for honesty, which makes him indifferent or detached towards his mother and sister. Rana is the one who makes complete sense in the film. He is wise, witty, & very considerate.
Piku gets a bit annoyed by Rana's uprightness and leaves declaring "I need a break.". And the way Bhaskor embarrasses Piku by calling her moody, and she is only ready to get into a "NEED-BASED" relationship says quite a lot. And he definitely doesn't want Piku to go away. 😉
Bhaskor decides to take a journey to Kolkata, where he has his ancestral house named after his mother. The trip takes place, incidentally, Rana becomes their escort, and the cute thing Rana does do make Piku sit beside him, and the Singhasan. This journey is never boring.😄
Rana isn't argumentative, he gives up when the person losing the argument. His conversations with Bhaskor is witty and profound at the same time. He explores Bhaskor and often gets amused by his eccentricities like Budhan making unusual sounds to get work done at the restroom. 😄
This is the hell-break scene where everybody loses their cool. Bhaskor gonna get here by Rana, I imagined. Rana argues, fights and ultimately gives up cos that's how he is. It is a weird scene, has no aesthetic moment except the 4th pic where the three Isles are separated.
Bhaskor is too particular that Rana doesn't get sympathy or any emotion from Piku. He has all her attention, isn't it? Look how curious is she inquiring on his job and stuff. And I want to make a special thread on the witty one-liners by Rana. Gee, he's a charmer. Just like me!😉
This scene in Benaras where Piku asks Rana where he really respects women or just trying to impress her. He responds in a quirky fashion. Ironically, all the characters in Piku are quirky. This is a classic example of "Some conversations from films stay with us for a long time."
The dependable-delivery formula by Baba Rana Dev. LOL. 😄😂
The journies are epiphanic, we meet ourselves, our inner-self while travelling. Look how profound the dialogues are, "Death and shit can come anytime." I'm clapping and smiling for all the oneliners. Slowly, I'm getting into a point where just write a script like Piku. That's it.
Rana articulates in the right way and for the first time, Bhaskor understands that he is getting restless for no reason. Again such pure, heartfelt writing by Juhi. A right mixture of emotions and situational wit. Perhaps, I'm repetitive, yet, this is an amazing picture.
The usual Bengali vs. Central India/Delhiite contest, this also comes in Vicky Donor. I liked this simple shot where Piku gets nostalgic looking at the school kids who are about to perform. An important shot because she has come to sell the house that holds some of her memories.
Though Bhaskor has quite a few unlikeable qualities, I find him extremely progressive and also has a few Feministic virtues. This scene is a classic example which proves that. He thinks a woman sacrificing her job just because the spouse is underpaid than her is Low IQ. Precise.
Juhi's constant emphasis on disregarding material greed. I wish we need more writers to convince us without preaching ideas. I need to mention Raju Hirani over here, he used to be balanced with his way of messaging, but lost somewhere in the middle these days.
I wish I was less hopeless and more hopeful as Rana. How skillfully he is trying to impress Piku and her family. Piku identifying it and having no objections makes this game more interesting. Piku (The film) is romantic, but very subtle 'neath, yet sheer romance.
Rana tries to give detachment lesson to Piku. He wants her to not to bear the burden of her father. Piku understands it, but she prefers to be a loyal daughter. And also Rana has better reasons to be disconnected from his family cos they are crooked af. 😄
Rana and Piku, yaar. ❤️❤️
Bhaskor Banerjee drivers cycle his heart out, has all the food he had missed for so many days, and he rests in peace. I wasn't expecting this twist, and also glad that it gave completeness to the picture. The way Deepika performed in the close-shots deserves tremendous praise.
The trademark Juhi-Shoojit da humour. When Raghubir Yadav calls up Piku, we feel like he's about to speak up revelation or something. But, all we get is Syed's constipation problem. Irony and wit. A terrific Combo. 😄
The sums up the whole purpose of the picture. It is all about an intelligent, and independent daughter taking of her eccentric but innocent father. Rana keeps emphasizing on the fact that Piku is special. Yes, She is special. I mean we both love her, so we know this. ❤️
Haan. It took me almost five hours to make this thread. I don't know, I think It is completely my love for the film that has driven me to do so. I'm rather impatient aka lazy otherwise. Thank you, Shoojit Sircar and Juhi Chaturvedi for Piku. Lots of Love to you! ❤️
