3/15 In 2017, disheartened by Web2 business models incentivizing companies to track and sell our data, we began a mission together to restore the Web's original promise. Our vision is of an Internet where users can explore and access information freely. https://bit.ly/3iSQ7Bg
4/15 We explored creating our own L1 before deciding to build a decentralized #VPN on #Ethereum. Inspired by Tor we envisaged an open, double-sided marketplace for private bandwidth incentivized by a digital currency. This resonated with VCs & the early #crypto community.
5/15 Early supporters such as @cdixon of @a16z, @matthuang of @sequoia, @polychaincap, @FBGCapital, @naval, @FutureJurvetson, @rogerkver, @collectionist, @wbrads, @VinnyLingham, @seiff, @yesvc, @fabric_vc & more joined Orchid's cause to create a new privacy solution.
6/15 Meanwhile from the Cambridge Analytica scandal to today’s privacy concerns in the time of #Covid19, #VPN usage continued to surge worldwide: https://bit.ly/2Ee2sAE .
7/15 Orchid’s #VPN powered by $OXT launched on #Android & #iOS Testflight in Dec, 2019. @CNET called Orchid #VPN “the next generation of #privacy technology” https://cnet.co/3h0XzJT , Soon after launch, $OXT became available on @Coinbase.
8/15 Other exchanges would soon pick up $OXT, giving their communities access to Orchid’s #VPN. These included: @KrakenFX, @Gemini, @BitcoinComExch, @OKEx, @CoinList, and wallets like @Ledger, @MetaMask_io, @AbraGlobal, @Bitgo, @IMtoken and more.
9/15 When #Covid19 broke out, we began offering journalists our #VPN for free, to help them protect their #privacy online. We became early signers of @WEF’s Presidio Principles designed to protect users' rights & advised on contact tracing: https://bit.ly/3awNNN2
10/15 Orchid’s market is Global. Our #VPN app is available worldwide with language support for Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, and Indonesian. We host community forums on Telegram, WeChat and Kakao to support our product and further the mission.
11/15 Orchid is also now multilingual in another way. It speaks 3 different #VPN protocols: @OrchidProtocol, @OpenVPN, and @WireGuardVPN. We announced the v0.9.17 release with @WireGuardVPN support and network stability improvements: https://bit.ly/2lFXZOt
12/15 As our global communities grow, we’re also hard at work making the product even easier to use. We launched on #iOS with an in-app purchases feature that lets you frictionlessly buy a #VPN service - a first of its kind in #Web3.
13/15 We have exciting projects in the works with incredible partners. Thank you to @Chainlink for the collaboration with our team to build a decentralized oracle for the price of bandwidth on @OrchidProtocol, and to @BloqInc for putting so much thought into solutions for staking
