Abuse Zayn has received from his time in the band and after.

in case it wasn’t clear enough, this thread is vv sad. My intentions are to shed light on Z’s perspective & maybe it’ll make ppl reconsider making jokes about him leaving the band & also chastise him for not commenting on the anniversary or responding to the boys.

Let’s start with very early on 2012 where Zayn had to delete his twitter because of all the abuse by fans he was subjected to:

tw//He was called a terr****t by his fans. And even had disgusting signs displayed at their concerts.

Here’s them throwing a shoe twice on stage. He took it quite gracefully as well.

He once wore a shirt that read “I’m not a terr****t”. No one stuck up for him. Not management and not the boys. Instead management controlled every aspect of his life that later had devastating effects that I will explain.

1D fans I’m sure remember early on Zayn used to be quite outgoing and goofy. As time went on, management kept forcing this “mysterious, broody, bad boy” narrative.

To ensure this, they even banned interviewers from asking questions related to silly things like pranks, or upsettingly, questions about his religious background. There was a leaked audio I’m sure you guys remember but management deleted it. Here’s what was said word by word.

At the time, they were pushing for Zayn to be the “broody” and “mysterious” member, and these questions would reveal otherwise. They wouldn’t fit the narrative management were selling. Here’s Zayn saying it was a essentially a selling point for them.

Not only that, but they didn’t let him change up his hair or grow out a beard(as he says below). Thankfully he didn’t listen to them but unfortunately this just resulted in them pushing the narrative of him being a “bad boy” even more.

tw// We all know Zayn suffered from an eating disorder during his time in the band. He wouldn’t eat for days at a time and it was his way of gaining back control. He says “every area of my life was so regimented and controlled, it was the one area where I could say, no”.

I’m not going to post the photos of Zayn at this time as it is quite upsetting but despite this, they continued on because management only saw them as money making machines. So tour they did.

He had also suffered anxiety and continues to. He had expressed that he was working on it and aims to start playing at smaller venues and working his way up(so proud of him). At least that was his plan until his management screwed him(I’ll explain more in the thread).

If you followed Zayn from his 1D days, you can tell in 2014, he was no longer enjoying performances and was usually gripping onto the mic stand while the others danced around. Performing to such large crowds could not have been easy, but he did it. He admits this here:

Back to Zayn’s ‘image’, Z had the same story pushed out in the media back then if you guys remember. That he was the “myserious bad boy”, “a cheater” and a “drug a*****”. The last one arose from a video of him AND Louis smoking.

tw//But mainly Zayn was chastised and it’s still brought up by some “fans” today. Here’s him missing one interview and the interview asking if it was because of substance abuse. Mind you, he was suffering from an ED around this time.

Now do we remember in 2014, Zayn tweeting #/freepalestine? And him receiving death threats from thousands of fans? And Rihanna doing the same but deleting shortly after after she received hate? He kept it up to this day.

And to top it off, he continued to show his support despite the scathing abuse from the fans and media alike. Any help from the boys or management? You guessed it, no.

tw //In March of 2015, Zayn left the band. He lost a lot of fans at this time. Fans even tried to trend #/c**forzayn to get him to come back.

Years later, Liam detailed the toxic environment they were all subject to. Liam had said if they had not taken hiatus when they did, “it would have k***ed [him]”. We cannot possibly imagine all the abusive things that occurred, especially to Z whose a POC and of a Muslim bg.

Here’s an interesting video of popular bands like NSYNC and Backstreet boys detailing the abuse they received being in a boy band, eerily similar to what Zayn and Liam mentioned[credits to @\\spill on YT for clip]. I’ll link the full video at the end.

The boys were all clearly mistreated and abused. So instead of commending Z for his bravery by leaving such a toxic env, fans chastised him? And still do to this day? Just yest, I saw a comment that “Zayn was a traitor”. No, Zayn was THE bravest to have the courage to walk away.

Now we all recall Louis and Zayn’s falling out on twitter. Despite Louis instigating this fight unprovoked, Zayn received all the hate. In 24 hours he lost 100k followers while Louis gained over 50k. And instead fans defended Louis and trended #\\tomlinsonslaysagain

As if this wasn’t heartbreaking enough, Zayn wrote his song “rEaR vIeW” to himself. I’ve added the more memorable lines including “heard about all the love you lost... heard about all the things you’ve been through. Sounds like you need a friend”.

Let’s also not forget some of the members changing their numbers and Zayn being unable to reach them.

Moving onto Zayn supposedly breaking it off with Perrie via text. Zayn had already cleared this up and said he had “too much respect and love” for her to end it that way.

Interestingly, Perrie changed her story twice. Here’s the interview of her detailing Zayn splitting with her via phone call at the airport.

Here’s a direct quote from her book where she says it was via text. And you cannot tell me she must’ve gotten mixed up. No, she detailed them quite well both times and it’s not something you just forget.

Additionally, this whole narrative came about during their promo of “Shoutout to my ex”. I don’t need to remind you all that they both were under Modest. Here’s lines from his song iT’s YoU(has not been confirmed to be about her so take with a grain of salt).

The texting breakup seems to be a familiar story for P as well...Do with that what you will.

side note: Some people may not agree with ^ but I’m doing a thread from Zayn’s perspective and regardless if you don’t believe it, don’t let it invalidate everything else I detailed in this thread.

As if that wasn’t enough, media journalists were discouraged from writing authentic pieces on Zayn but rather scathing articles painting him out as a bad guy. This still occurs to this day. Heres multiple journalists attesting to this fact:

Moving on to Zayn being labelled “ungrateful” and rude to the boys by his fans. Are we conveniently forgetting he thanked them as he received an award:

Or that he tweeted at them but they did not respond. It’s angers me seeing comments that he should have responded to the recent tweet by Louis but has Louis ever? Or the other boys?

As you guys know, Zayn was time and time again denied creative input in the band. He says that here:

He was pretty open about his thoughts and had expressed the music wasn’t for him and was too generic. But again, received hate. It wasn’t his music and all the guys agreed but they just didn’t admit it.

Many fans at the time shared the same thoughts as this clown here but understand he was being honest to his experience. They all have different music now for a reason.

On the topic of his music, let’s discuss his label RCA. Now I’m sure some of you saw #FreeZayn a couple of times. This was because RCA, on numerous occasions, were proven to have sabotaged him and his music.

As Simon set it up, there must be something much deeper and abusive behind this that we don’t quite know but here’s what we do...

Besides the complete lack of promo for Icarus falls, they also fell short and released physical copies two weeks late AND they weren’t available in many countries.

They leaked his songs in the past, he wasn’t aware until fans brought it to his attention. They also tampered with his music video storyline’s(he writes the scripts for his MV). And help us songs for months to years at a time

They prevent collabs from being released. Just recently we also found out about his unreleased collab with Charlie Puth. They also ban some radios from playing his songs.

They have also blocked some YouTubers from reviewing his music. One particular Youtuber was asked to take it down.

And do you guys remember Zayn was supposed to cameo in ocean 8? Well he arrived to the set and there was no one there. He waited for two hours and this was taken after he left. No doubt they were behind this.

TW2016: As you may or may not recall, Zayn received so many racists and derogatory comments by Azalea Banks unprovoked. She suggested he copied her MV and he tweeted it was a reach(and it was).

There’s more. She kept going. A truly vile individual.

I remember Skai Jackson speaking up but did anyone else? No. Despite Azalea directly mentioning the other boys and saying Zayn only existed in the band as a “token” member, none of the boys said anything. Neither did his management.

For context, Zayn always defended them. Harry’s womaniser rumours? Shut them down. Niall assaulted by paps? Drove them off. And many more instances.

Moving on, I’m proud of stan twitter for stepping up and getting the song removed but as you know the islamophobic song released about Zayn.

Moving on to 2017, Z tweeted a link to donate asking to “help out in anyway possible”. He received SO much hate from this and became increasingly less active on social media. But Louis did the same thing and was praised? The hypocrisy is hard to stomach. Side by side comparison..

Let me remind you how sweet and generous this man is! Here’s some charities and causes he was apart of. (I’ll link the original tweet at the end for easier viewing).

Here’s him sending a fan a signed copy of their movie after receiving a drawing. And in another instance, sending back a personal thank you note and encouraging the fan to keep it at it.

But some ‘fans’ failed him. He was put through so much and so many fans left him out to dry that even when he won the VMAS, he was surprised. He says “I can’t believe people still voted for me”.

There’s so much behind close doors we don’t know about. He didn’t even write the goodbye post himself! There’s so much mistreatment and toxicity that we will may never come to find out but all we can do is support Zayn.

tw//Surrounding the 1D anniversary, under his Instagram posts, fans flooded his comment section with death threats to him, to his baby and were disappointed that he did not comment. I won’t add the threats here.

Ask yourself, would you? Keep in mind, we don’t even know half the story. Had you experienced such levels of abuse and mistreatment, would you then not want to distance yourself from it all? Him commenting on it brings it all back.

And the excuse he should have done it for his fans? He has. Several times. You just don’t care enough about him to know this fact. But I went to the trouble of gathering SOME of them.

In his book, outlining he was grateful for the band and that he wouldn’t have all this.

Having a literal wall dedicated to One Direction.

He never “faked” anything. He still had fun with the boys and loved the fans but that lifestyle was not for him. Why would you continue working somewhere if it’s making you miserable?

I see so many comments daily of jokes of Zayn leaving, of him being ungrateful...don’t. Sure, we can all reminisce on what was(I do myself) but if you are going to keep tweeting about him, don’t make light of his struggles and support his solo career as well.

covering this persons ID but this is disappointing. After reading through this thread, you choose to focus on that? The fact is they didn’t defend him. Not once. One small comment would have sufficed. Management pushed the H was a womaniser narrative but Z still defended him so?
