Sour Candy music video meaning, a thread:

Animator @samrolfes said the "fairies" in the Sour Candy music video were modelled after angelic beings (seraphims) encased in a (sour) sugar-shell, designed as vessels for each artist's creative spirit. Their armour consists of "umbra-dentata" (teeth) and sacred floral garments.

On Spotify, Lady Gaga says the following about the meaning behind Sour Candy:

I find it interesting that @samrolfes used the wording “umbra-dentata” to describe the armour, as when you google “dentata” the first result is “vagina dentata,” which refers to a folk tale about a woman having a toothed vagina, and implies the outcome if a man had sex with her..

The overall mood of the song is very seductive, encouraging whoever it is being sung to to “come, come, unwrap me”

The animator also describes the celestial beings depicted in the music video as "modeled from bioluminescent sea creatures glowing from digital photophores, hunting for light in otherwise impenetrable darkness."

I immediately thought of the deep-sea creature the Angler fish. Female Angler fish have a "luminescent organ called the esca at the tip of a modified dorsal ray (the illicium or fishing rod)" which serves the dual purpose of luring prey, as well as attracting males to mate with.

Anglerfish are sexually dimorphic, with females being much larger than males. The mating process between Anglerfish is where things get really interesting; The male is “merely an appendage of the female, and entirely dependent on her for nutrition.” In other words: a parasite.

When Anglerfish males go looking for love, they follow a species-specific pheromone to a female, who will aid their search further by flashing her bioluminescent lure. Once the male finds a suitable mate, he bites into her belly and latches on until his body fuses with hers.

Their skin joins together, and so do their blood vessels, which allows the male to take all the nutrients he needs from his host/mate’s blood. The two fish essentially become one.

The lyrics in the song indicate Lady Gaga and BLACKPINK as being seducers talking to their male mates; whether or not they intent to co-exist with their mates or destroy them remains a mystery..

BLACKPINK's verses tend to be more aggressive, while Gaga's are more alluring

The music video shows these angels in their search (or hunt) through the metachromatic darkness for a worthy mate (or prey).

I just want to add that I've noticed at one point I refer to the song's lyrics as speaking to a "male mate" and just want to clarify it should be "mate" period, Gaga is openly bi and she could be singing about seducing a man OR woman
