Right I’m going to make a thread on why you shouldn’t compare non-human animal oppression to human oppression and I promise you, it’s nothing to do with speciesism (1)
All forms of oppression are interconnected under this oppressive regime, and while we can acknowledge the importance of ALL forms of oppression (if you don’t then you’re really a clown), it’s reductive to compare and contrast atrocities of any kind (2)
.this isn’t because they are non-human and we are human. The problem stems from simply gathering that all forms of oppression are comparable simply because they are forms of oppression, and anyone who doesn’t do so is speciesist. But you’re really comparing oranges to apples (3)
Because animals are specifically bred for our consumption and entertainment, and their suffering does not stem from the shear hatred of the existence of the animal. Rather, the idea that we feel entitled to their bodies and therefore modify their bodies to fit our needs (4)
no matter what it might cost the animal. Comparing it to any form of human atrocities such as slavery or the holocaust is reductive on both ends because you’ve completely undermined the ideas and beliefs surrounding both parties and have failed to scratch the surface of (5)
why exactly we hold the feelings and beliefs surrounding animals. If you ask most people if they are animal lovers, they will tell you yes, regardless of their diet. The carnist ideology that we can ignore animal suffering while calling ourselves animal lovers is (6)
Rooted in such a different idea and standpoint than anti-semitism, racism, islamaphobia etc. While all parties face oppressive conditions, they do so for different reasons, and they manifest in different ways. And while I do things that these oppressions are perpetuated (7)
For the same reason, which is capitalism and white supremacy, the oppressed are not assisted by making comparisons. If comparisons were effective, people who could be vegan, would be. For instance, a racist knows a POC has the same (8)
Bodily functions as them and are oppressed ‘like’ a poor White person can be. That does not stop them from being racist. By comparing animal suffering to human suffering, you are only acknowledging that we have the same cognitive ability to feel pain, and be oppressed (9)
but you are getting absolutely nowhere with the argument. The only way we can uproot all forms of oppression is from the source. And they are grown on the same soil, but do not share the same roots, if that makes sense. In short, both are perpetuated from similar sources but (10)
Manifest in completely different ways. End of thread. (11/11)
