A flag is not your dog's bandana.
Since a lot of people are being terribly ignorant abt proper flag usage and flag protocols and justifying that ignorance with pAtRiOtIsM heres simplified thread on how to respect the flag, dos and donts.
If youre patriotic, spend 5 mins to learn.
Firstly, what is a flag?
These are not flags, one is a tshirt with a crescent and a star, the other is a facemask with same symbols.
This is Pakistan's flag. And the other photo contains exact specification.
If it's a different color, its not a Pakistani flag. If it has no white part, it's not a Pakistani flag. Etc.
Ok so now you have procured a Pakistani flag and feeling terribly patriotic. What should you do?
If you are a normal citizen, you can hoist your flag on your house on 14th August. Only specific residences are allowed to hoist it every day And there are rules on how you do it.
You are so patriotic that you want your flag on the house 24/7. But the flag says you cant do that. You can hoist the flag at or after sunrise and you must take it down before sunset. Respect requires that your flag does not remain up in the dark. There is only one building
That is allowed a flag after sunset. That building it the Parliament of Pakistan and even there, there must be a light illuminating the flag at all times.
You can see the flag at night in this photo.
Theres a spotlight in the flag but its not clearly visible in the photograph.
When the flag is being raised anywhere, all uniformed personnel (Navy, Army, Airforce, Police etc) must salute and maintain salute till it is hoisted completely. Not doing so is considered disrespectful
The flag must not be displayed vertically, upside down, at a place where it can get dirty or be burned or trampled upon. It must be able to wave freely without obstruction. You cannot wear it as a piece of clothing.
But you want your clothes to be patriotic in 14th, now what?
Theres a simple solution. Use a green cloth that is not a flag. Your green kurti is not a flag, a green bandana is not a flag. A piece of cloth or paper or any material made according to specifications and meant to be a flag is a flag, avoid using those as clothing.
