I've been playing Greedfall and honestly the story feels really off?
Obviously a game where you play as a colonising nation is gonna do that but beyond the 'yikes' of the core concept it's just weird.

The game is real inconsistent in its tone and I feel like beyond two of the companions, no one has any real stakes?
One guy is dealing with the corruption of his guild and dealing with his own mistakes and trauma while the other companion is a native who's dealing with her hatred and resentment against the colonisers but also doesn't want anymore fighting.
And everyone else is just kind of a dick? Like I don't care about any of these people?
Their outlooks provide no real discussion on the issues at hand. They're very much 'I represent the best of this Faction'.

So they're very pro their relevant Faction but also see no flaw in their views.
And that's fine; usually that means there is room to grow from that.
Veronica from Fallout New Vegas is the same about the Brotherhood, even if she is open about her problems with her people.

But she's like that because the game shows us there are serious problems with the Brotherhood's outlook and methods.
Greedfall doesn't really challenge anything. I feel like I'm being shown a variety of problems which are happening in a vaccuum.

In one quest, I had to investigate a village which was summoning a demon according to the religious factions colony and they were right in a way; the natives of the island were summoning a powerful nature spirit to go to war which the characters thought was a bad thing.
But then a couple quests later, the characters learn some out right vile shit the religious faction have been doing but my character is still then encouraged to continue working with them? Since its just apparently 'a few bad apples' which as I said earlier... Yikes.
I dunno man, I'm not doing a very good job at describing it but this game is just so odd when it comes to its characterisation and themes I don't know how to describe it.
I'll probably add to this thread later maybe.
