friendly reminder that historia too, is a victim of eren. as much as i love their dynamic, when he coerced her into agreeing with the rumbling, as far as we know, she was not told of it’s future repercussions—

a thread.
unlike the rest of the squad, she’s never set foot outside of paradis. she cannot comprehend how vast the world is. even eren, who appeared so sure of his plan while talking to her, showed hesitancy after “understanding” the “enemy” in marley. historia never had this chance.
when he told her she was the worst girl in the world, he reminded her it was she who saved him, that she has a responsibility in this turn of events. however, eren never opened up to her emotionally, nor did he tell her about his own selfish motivations in destroying the world.
she did not know sasha would die. she did not know paradis would get infiltrated. she does not see the emotional dilemma her friends are going through. she does not see them fighting back. she is alone, and she is suffering. she doesn’t even know what eren did to her family.
her character arc revolved around her living her life with pride. and she cannot do that again, not unless eren is stopped. and especially not if all her friends are killed in the process. she wanted to be a just ruler, but was forced to hide the biggest, most regretful secret.
she is easily swayed, and she was in a desperate situation. between sacrificing her lineage and herself, and sacrificing the rest of the world. she had to make a choice. and in that moment, eren chose the specific words “you’re the world girl in the world who saved me that day”—
a callback to the time she told him that she is humanity’s enemy, but his ally. he rewrote the context entirely. he gave her a terrible, terrible ultimatum under his own delusion that he was doing this for the future of their friends.
which is why, i would absolutely hate it if eren lives, and returns to her after killing all their friends and destroying the world. that is not freedom. and if he really does kill everyone in the world except eldians, i’m not sure what message it portrays.
besides, in his mind, he is also doing this for “his friends”, and if he kills all of them, but still lives a “free” life with his family, even if with regrets, i’d PERSONALLY hate it. he deserves actual consequences for his actions.
tl:dr historia deserves better, and so do the rest of the 104th squad than them just being numbers of eren’s murder list.
anyway, this is just my interpretation of historia’s character and the story. i’m aware some of you see her as an innately all selfish being, and that’s fine. it’s your opinion, you’re free to disagree. move on.
