This is hella important and a very real fear. I'm 31 and graduating next year.

Granted, I've been taking courses and switching degrees and dealing with medical stuff and constantly restarting since I was 18 but I've felt like I was too old for school since 22. https://twitter.com/Laurenaaah_/status/1293814644512038913
The debt is hella bad. Somehow manic episodes seemed to coincide with enrollment periods. I'm going to go ahead and blame that.

On that note, deep depression often coincided with midterms.
Also worth remembering is that it's okay if you don't want to or can't go to a university for whatever reason. It's shitty that the United States makes higher education both important and impossible for a lot of people.

Just don't let age be the determining factor if possible.
I receive tuition reduction because my wife works at a college. If she didn't, my chances of graduating would be gone at this point.

I definitely recognize my privilege in this regard. I want to be clear on that. And I, again, recognize that the gatekeeping sucks suuuper bad.
Being the older person in class can feel pretty cool, too. And sometimes it feels like I'm getting more out of school than I used to. Kind of like I'm more suited for it.

I also dress like an absolute child, wear headphones, and ride a longboard between classes. Camouflage.
Last tweet for this thread, I promise. And not really related, but is that how I'm supposed to handle alt text in regards to details? I'm never quite sure.
