FIVE BUSINESS AREAS YOU SHOULD THINK AROUND

In Nigeria, we don't have many indigenous business success books. We read western books only to find out that we're in a different world. Principles help, but some are developed around demographics.

So, what businesses are here?
First, let me establish something. Jeff Bezos almost doubled Dangote's life net worth in one day. Dangote is doing very well. However, it just says one thing:

In Africa, we're not pursuing wealth, WE'RE RUNNING AWAY FROM POVERTY.

Yes! So, out terrain differs! So, look at this:
1. FOOD

Until the world ends, "man shall not live by bread alone" simply means "you'll be living by bread and any other thing." But Bread? You must!

Food security will remain a problem begging for solutions. Starting a business around the food value chain will thrive.
You can be in any of the value chain: production (direct farming), storage, distribution, processing, and value addition.

So, starting a poultry, growing beans, building a silo, exporting, building recipes, owning an eatery... Anything! Food: You'll likely succeed here.
2. TRANSPORTATION

Basic biology tells us that MOVEMENT is the first characteristic of life (MR. NIGER + D). People will always move from one place to the other for different reasons, EVERYDAY AND EVERY MOMENT OF THE DAY.

Do you know why it will thrive? It has a ready market!
Only a few people have their CUSTOMER Dafo bus, taxi or tricycle or motorcycle rider.

Passengers wave down anyone and hop in.

So, whether you intend to drive yourself or give someone a hire purchase, you'll likely succeed in a business around here.
3. EDUCATION

Do you know that you're reading this post because you want to learn something?

Till we all die, IGNORANCE will remain our best friend. You'll never know it all, and you'll want to know some.

So, education is a sector that will continue to make sales.
It will also continue to create jobs. Whether you have a creche school, you write a book, you do a research, you start a blog, you start a podcast, you do YouTube videos, or whatever...

If you educate, you'll have customers. People will come to your stall to learn.
4. HOUSING

I intentionally avoided the words, "Real Estate" so that no one will be scared. It requires capital right?
But do you know those agents around you? Some of them don't own houses.

Every sector has a VALUE CHAIN. Learn to fix yourself into the block that aligns...
with your present circumstances. LEARN THAT!

Knowing a potato farmer in Jos and living in Lagos can be a business. You move from production to distribution. Value chain. Fix yourself.

If you have money, buy lands. Build hostels near campuses. Build warehouses near markets.
Build shops. Build homes.

As a rule, "BUSINESS FIRST, FAMILY NEXT."

It is better to be a tenant with tenants than be a landlord without tenants.

We've past that stage of having mansions in your village and living in slums in the city. Real estate will pay!
5. PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

All these businesses will need attorneys, book keepers, content creators, marketers, etc.

Every business thrives on service providers.

You can own an OUTSOURCING FIRM and sell the benefits of outsourcing to these businesses before you sell yourself.
6. KEEP LEARNING

I don't know much. One thought can't have all the answers. So, drop your comments. Your suggestions. Let's have a learning hub under this thread.

I also want to encourage Crypto and Forex traders. Empower others. We're in a race away from poverty.
