My wife and I were discussing my old job managing the comic book store tonight. That job could have been great. I had a lot of great customers that I miss seeing, plus what could be better than working with comic books! Far more fun than practicing law!
I STILL can't believe, even 4 yrs later, that I got fired solely because my boss believed that if he paid me $400 on Monday, borrowed said $400 from me on Tuesday to help pay for the comic shipment, then repaid the borrowed $400 on Thursday that he paid me $800 that week.
After the 3rd or 4th consecutive request for me to return my paycheck so he could pay for his shipment, I suggested he switch my payday to later in the week when the cash flow was better. He refused, claiming he needed me paid by the end of his fiscal week on Tuesday.
For that matter, I still don't understand how he didn't realize how far Saturday sales numbers had fallen after he hired the college kid to work on my off day. In a span of a year, Saturday average sales dropped around 55% on what should have been our 2nd best day of the week.
By comparision, over that time, my average Monday & Tuesday usually did better sales than his Saturdays. A lot of that was customers the kid had offended who refused to deal with him anymore, but hey, at least the kid brought in card players!
Now I hear that the former boss is telling people that he fired me for stealing a box of Golden and Silver Age comics. Or at least he supposedly is telling people someone with my first name stole a box of comics from him. I don't know if he specifically names me.
I once told that boss I'd sue his ass for defamation if I ever heard of him claiming I stole anything from him. I believe it was in 2011.
I did that after I heard him accuse 4 previous employees of theft earlier, and he would accuse 2 others of similar while I worked there. He ended a long friendship with 1 guy after accusing him of stealing 2 boxes of New 52 issue 1s the owner had hoarded, among other things.
I eventually found both boxes in the owner's storage unit, and almost every other item the owner identified as stolen was eventually found in the store or storage.
And this thread is why I shouldn't Twitter when I've been drinking. Good night all
